Morning boys.  Didn't even have a bite yesterday.  It was so nice that I was talking to my buddy on the ice with a light jacket on.  Nice to be there.  No big plans for the day.  It is  30 here and the sun is shining.  So I will just try to stay out of trouble. Have a good one.

I see there was just an active shooter situation at Lunds in New York Mills this morning.  Employees had him under control by the time police arrived.

Mornin' comrades! 30 at  choretime heading for a high in the lower 30's later this afternoon before the front passes thru. Shearing tomorrow so need to get mentally prepared for that. I usually worry needlessly that I won't have everything ready when the shearer shows up. A lot of the sheep owners aren't even around when he shears anymore. We try to make it more like it used to be, where everyone helps, the sheep get shorn and we sit down to eat dinner afterwards. Then when the shearing crew leaves we take a nap! Forgot to mention, I got to meet Mrs. Gerry, the lady from Albert's Leaf whose company makes all those salads. When we went to therapy on Monday she was also having some work done on her shoulders. She worked hard all those years and is just a small gal in her early 80's. Super nice to visit with and was hoping my wife is healed sufficiently to decorate their house & Wedgewood Cove next Christmas. The Mrs. went to work today for the 1st time since Nov. Loaded her walker and stuff herself.  :happy1:

I know a fella who works there...

I know a sheep guy who delivers boats from there. Lotsa Finnlanders in that neck of the woods. Nice folks but not people to mess with. Many of them armed.

Yeah, the 31 year-old victim probably "diss'ed" the 21 year-old suspect.

But, let's wait to hear the rest of the story.   :censored:

Thanks for keeping us updated mikey. There's some sheep people drama going on unrelated to this involving people up that direction. Will have to see if any of our NY Mills contacts know anything.

Insert your own visual image of a sheep wearing lipstick, red high heel shoes, and fishnets.  I'm too tired to go look for that pick again tonight.   :oscar:

Morning all, 1 degree here in International Falls this morning with bright sunshine. High of 29 forecast. This will be the last day below 32 degree's for a week they are claiming. I'm all in for that!! Very windy here yesterday and the snow is settling.

Many years ago I read a couple of Jeffery Archer novels. He does family stories and follows the families through the generations from poor beginnings to multi millionaires. There always are villains. Kane & Able was one I really liked. Anyway I picked up another novel by him Wednesday at the library. Much like Kane & Able I just can't put it down. Down to the last 130ish pages of this 630 pager and the ending is becoming clear.

I noticed he has many more novels than I knew about so I'm hoping this is the first in a series.

Have a good day & stay safe.  (Glenn be sure to do a proper release on those oversize Pike.)

Morning boys.  A little late to the party as was talking to my brother about our SB bets.  SO JB, I have never heard that velcro/sheep thing.  Where did you grow up at???    :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:   I am curious to hear about this sheep conspiracy with Dotch's people though too.  I fished till 5 and then came up to the house to make supper and here my buddy who fishes by me ran out of gas so I had to bring him some.  Man the wind was cold and howling so we did it as quick as possible.  I turned the heat off in the fish house and will commence fishing on Monday.  I only had one bite.  I'm gonna fire up the woodburner to keep the garage warm and cut me some blocks to put under the head of the bed.  That is the poor man's adjustable bed I guess.  Will see if that works.  lol  Well time for another cup.  TGIF.

Didn't make too much progress yesterday on the sheeting the garage, alot of windows and outlets to cut out around. Should be done with South side in an hour and then do the East side where's there's two 10' x 12' garage doors and I'll be done for now. Then I can clean up my mess and find something else to do. Nice project to do in the middle of Winter during a warm spell. Have a great day all, later.... :happy1: :happy1:

Back where I used to work in Anoka and friend of mine there had a buddy that raised sheep. One year for his buddie's birthday he gave him a pair of gloves with velcro sewed on the palm and fingers as a gage gift.  :rotflmao: I still laugh about it when I think about it.

Hey, Dutch. I listen to a lot of audiobooks when I’m driving. I use an app called Libby to find them and download them. You can search by author. It shows regular books, too,  and if it’s a series like John Stanford’s or William Kent Krueger’s books it tells you what number in a series each one is. I don’t know if the regular reading rather than ebooks are included, but it might tell you if the library has them, and might give you some idea of the sequence in a series before you head to the library.

Thank you, thats always a issue, getting into the right order of books when it's a series. This one had a definitive ending so it wasn't part of a series. I'll be off to the library to grab a couple more books soon. Seeing how I would much rather read then watch TV I might be missing most of the Super Bowl.

just read this;

Red Lake Band members plan Saturday demonstrations on road to Northwest Angle and Upper Red Lake
The toll for vehicles to enter the Northwest Angle is expected to be “just a few bucks or so” but will likely take people by surprise, an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band said.

Members of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa will be set up at the Minnesota-Manitoba border beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, to collect a toll from vehicles entering the Northwest Angle on Lake of the Woods County Road 330.File photo/Brad Dokken, Grand Forks Herald

The Trust Project We are part of The Trust Project.
RED LAKE, Minn. – Two groups of Red Lake Nation tribal members will hold separate demonstrations beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in Waskish, Minn., and at the Manitoba-Minnesota border on Lake of the Woods County Road 330, the road leading to the Northwest Angle, to draw attention to tribal concerns, an organizer says.

According to Migizi (Gary) Spears of Minneapolis, an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe, a group calling itself Red Lake First Nations United will gather at Upper Red Lake in Waskish to protest the Treaty of 1889, which he says violates the Red Lake Nation’s fishing rights.

They will temporarily block the bridge on state Highway 72 in Waskish “just to do a couple of prayers and songs” and will also fish on Upper Red Lake, Spears said. The bridge won’t be blocked for more than 30 minutes to an hour or so, Spears says, and he expects about 50 to 60 tribal members will be on hand in Waskish until Sunday night.

County 330 is the only road leading into the NW Angle.  That is where you leave Manitoba and reenter the US.  I have been stopped by the Canadians Customs before to make sure I had checked in at Jims Corner and had a number.  The same spot the natives will be I am sure.  A lot of that land is theirs.  WE maintain the road so this may get interesting.

I just started a book titled A Place in the Woods by Helen Hoover. So far it seems like a good read.

And there-in lies part of the problem. The bands want to be sovereign nations until they need something. We should not be plowing roads, paving roads, repairing roads that travel through tribal land, period. They have their own government, let them tax their own people for road & infrastructure improvements. Also the BIA is long past being needed and funding should be discontinued there also.
