Ya, Boar, good idea.  My son-in law took the class two years and he still hasn't decided to get the permit.  He can't stand the idea of shooting anyone which is understandable.  I told him to think about getting the permit.  Don't have to carry anything around if you don't want to but on long distant travels it's nice to have.  There were two robberies on 35W in the last year.  One was near Cloquet.  A guy was changing his tire off  the road and some guy stopped and robbed him with a handgun pointed at him.  Same with the other robbery.   I took a class recommended by my brother here in Anoka.  The guy does security for some rich folks while  they travel.  Ours was 4 hours long and 1 hour at a indoor range.  I was surprised that half there were women.  More and more women are getting permits.  Going to make apple brats soon.  First time using this seasoning from Curley's.  good luck.

Ya know barry. I decided based on this last night. I'm gona take the class when I have time,  why, cause they will go ove every question you have, they will put in your mind whether this is right for you or not. us discussing is really good. but I think youll get more outa the class itself. Much appreciate what reb and other are putting forth. but I feel I cant rely make a decision until ive done the class and then I can decide to keep up the lisence or not.

That's exactly how it should be, Boar.  Good decision! :happy1:

O ya, I better say "Good morning" on the good morning thread.... 36*, windy and gloomy. A putsy kinda day.

Carrying is a personal decision and not one to be taken lightly. I took my class almost two years ago and REALLY enjoyed it.  But I've yet to purchase a handgun, however, I do think I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger, no pun intended.  I mainly did mine to cover my permit to purchase and to learn more about the law.  What I liked about the class is that it talked MUCH more about when NOT to use it than when to use it.

If I have one pet peeve, it's the people that carry and brag about it.  They're only doing it for the machismo and it only serves to further the "Gun Nut" stereotype.  Plus that kind of mentality is one that will likely end up escalating a tense situation, not diffusing one. It's one thing to be a 2nd Amendment Advocate, it's another one to be a completely insecure idiot.

I have two sons (6 and 9 years old).  So I've really been researching the bio-safes, etc.  I'm slowly exposing them to firearms from a hunting standpoint, my oldest has even begun to shoot the 22" while I supervise. But if I do end up purchasing a handgun, I'm going to do my best to keep them oblivious to it.  It's such a hard decision but I guess if I wasn't second-guessing it so much, there would be something wrong.

Isn't the permit to purchase. different? I got one when I was thinking about the pistol purchase. Was under the impression it was basically a background check you would go thru to buy a gun anyway. And it's only good for a year.

Yes. With a permit to carry, that is all that's needed to purchase a handgun. You're outta the store with it in ten minutes.

Great post, TL. Anyone that displays or brags about it should NOT be carrying. I carry everywhere I go, and no one will ever know or see it. I have a Gun Vault cabled to the floor in my truck to put my guns in when I go somewhere I can't take them, ie; post office, schools, etc. I highly recommend one at home too, they're not very spendy. Just common sense.

Good morning, man what a great day yesterday. Partly sunny in the 70's with a light breeze. Had our first golf outing for the year, and later in the evening had a few more beer by the fire pit with the guys. It was a wife/girlfriend free day so it was nothing but ball busting for 12 hours and no one to tell us to stop it  sleazy-422.gif. Well y'all have a good day maybe a little rain later this afternoon so I might put a light smoke and glaze on a pre Easter ham, you can never have too much ham.
if you kick me when I'm down you better pray I don't get up.

Ya Gloomy here too and 31.  Hope it warms up today.  Had a little of a shocker yesterday.  A guy comes in and he has big earrings, makeup, a dress on and high heels and nylons .  He was a big guy too.  Sort of grumpy.  I wonder why.  It was windy too and kept blowing his dress up..  ????  To each their own I guess..   Well I ruined a steak last night on the pellet grill.  They take some getting used to when trying to do a steak that needs high heat for a short time.  Should have fired up the charcoal grill.  I got it way overdone.  Don't know what I will do today.  Maybe just putz around here.  May fish from shore for awhile.  In a lawn chair.  AFTER I get my new license....

Julia Childs used to say undercooked fish looks "womby", that' where I got that. Used to be a big joke among my buddies that cooked.
