Morning boys.  It is 31 here and hope to see 47 before the snow/rain shows up around supper time.  Still no open water here but should see it in the next few days.  I need to head to the store to get me a corned beef and cabbage today.  I am drooling just thinking about it. We still have some snow in the woods and a few spots in the pasture.  The puddles are getting smaller too.  Jake is the gauge.  At HH I sat out in a lawn chair in the lawn and he got dirty enough to need a warsh job but he wasn't as bad as he was yesterday.  I like it when it is still frozen ground in the morning. It helps.  Well you all have a great Friday.

Mornin' comrades! 26 at choretime heading for a high in the low 50's. Nice sunshine to start the day. No newbies in the lambing barn. Haven't been any since last Saturday. I need to check the weather records to see what impact that might've had. Sometimes if the weather gets too warm, rams will go sterile temporarily. Gestation period on ewes is 150 days give or take a few days. We used to use a marking harness mounted on the brisket of the ram. When they'd mount the ewe, the crayon on the harness would leave a mark & you'd know when the ewe had been bred. Catching the ram & keeping the harness operational was a PITA. Besides the fact the rams really stink, they usually don't win Miss Congeniality contests so stopped using those many moons ago.

Buy a new boat and the locator will come with it.   :sleazy:  The heck with new carpet.  Boats are more important.  Actually the wife is into home improvement now instead of toy improvement.

I would have gotten a little bucky too if they tried putting a marking crayon on me back in my peak.

Latetest on land transfer bills.
Land Transfer Bills

There are now three land transfer bills. The Democrats are looking at transferring various acres of land to different tribes. SF 3480 - the White Earth Forest land transfer was last heard in the Environment Climate and Legacy Committee on 3/7, and tabled, no further action has been taken. Senator Pappas has proposed SF3986 - Cloquet Forest Center transfer. It was heard on 3/14 in the State and Local Government and Veterans Committee and is headed to the Capital Investment Committee. In the House, multiple authors have proposed HF 4780 - Upper Red lake transfer. This bill has not moved in the house and currently has no Senate Companion. If this bill passed, it would create a 1-mile buffer around the lakeshore and extend the reservation.

I was in Ireland a few years ago. Ran into sheep all over the place with many of them sporting a nice green, pink, blue, or red patch on their back. we had no idea what that was about.  My wife is great at approaching strangers to talk to, and learned about the method of marking the ewes that had been bred by which rams. The different colors apparently indicated who the guilty ram belonged to.
On a side note, that was a great trip and great place to visit.  Friendliest and nicest people I’ve ever run into.

Mornin gang, 32 for our start & we might make it all the way up to 34. Think we had some light rain late last night, but I haven't been out to see if any of it actually hit the ground. Been going through my rods & reels & giving them a little TLC for about the last week, whenever I have the time. Got another 1 ready to go back out to the pod today. So, I'll see if there's another, I can bring back with me. 'Bout it here, have a great day.

Morning boys.  It is 28 and windy.  The high is 33 which we may have already had.  We barely got a dusting of snow from the event last night.  Yes the wife got the amber alert but I didn't.  I will try to post it.  A lot going on with it.  House on fire.  Can't find the lady or her kids, double homicide.  ????   Well no open water here yet but I can tell right where it will be when it happens.  There is a dark channel on the Canada side that will open up first.  Took a drive to Vidas landing yesterday and there was open water there.  Cooper was by me and Jake was not.  I called for him and here some jackwad had thrown out a bag of fish guts last fall and he found it in a snow bank and was eating and rolling in it.  When I called him and walked towards him he did it all even faster.  Oh boy.  I got him on leash and tried to warsh him with snow which helped.  We had to shampoo him again last night.  I think that is 5 days in a row now.  LOL  Good thing we love him.  Good ol Cooper is nice and clean so I hope Jake catches on.  When he rolled next to me in bed I could still detect some fishy odor.  Just having coffee and watching the river so far.  Will bring Bucko 2 round bales since the ground is froze.  That may get us to spring.  LOL  He has been eating grass lately so won't even use up the bales we have. You all have a great Saturday.

Ireland is where some of my lineage originates. It's on my bucket list to visit along with Scotland, where the Cheviot sheep originated. I could see where that would be one way to use the marking harnesses. Where we're breeding purebred sheep, we did it primarily so we knew when the lambs would show up as we purposely only breed certain ewes to certain rams. Or we're supposed to. I remember driving up on one of our off site pastures one time where we had two groups of ewes in separate paddocks being bred to different rams. One had a blue crayon the other was red. It was warm and noticed when I got closer there were some ewes where their backsides were purple! Here the guy who we were working with at the time hadn't wired one of the gates shut properly. So much for keeping them separate.  :doah:

A buddy gets his sheep feed in Mankato, not sure where you get yours Dotch.  He's down in the Fort Dodge area. Mornin peoples been sitting at 41 since it was dark and the wind is blowing. Ma and Pa got back from there wintering grounds in Alabama on Wednesday,  so they are coming over this afternoon for a chili feed and meet Maisy,  should be fun but it'll be chaos with 4 pooches and kitty running around.  Anywho best get off the chair before momma thinks I'm stuck to it...See ya!!  Oh yeah, congrats Glenn!! That's the only bill I have left, another 6 yrs or so and it'll be gone!

We’re having breakfast in Osakis right now. I forgot our grand daughter had archery here this morning. She shot a 264 out of 300 which is good and one flight she shot a perfect score of 50. Gotta brag a little.  :happy1: :happy1:

They have everything FF doesn't. :happy1: It's about a 15 minute drive to the store if you don't have to wait for the train. Congrats glenn on the mortgage & good luck boober. Sounds like it'll be a circus. Take a cold shower while yer at it glenn!  :doah:

Got one bale out for Bucko.  That will last a couple of weeks since he is nibbling on grass in the pasture now too.  Too frigging windy to do the second one.  The wife helped with the gates and rolling the bale to get the fabric off.  The Twins game is on so there is an excuse to do nothing for awhile.  LOL  Open water is maybe a mile from us.  At least big openings.  Should see it later today.
