Back to the grind today.  I forgot to check the rain gauge but it sure rain a lot after I checked it earlier.  I'm going to guess we got close to 3 to 3 1/2.  I have no plans this evening but something always comes up.

Morning all. I have been putting out fires here at worked since I walked in the door this morning. Things have settled down finally. Got our trial cams put out at the hunting land and the mineral licks freshened up. Also mowed around the cabin. Need to start thinking about food plots. Rain a bunch yesterday, but we ended up with 5/8" of rain when all was said and done. Have a good day!

Ya we got less than an inch too.  Sure came down hard at times and the wind really blew.  Didn't knock down any trees though.  Gonna be nice for a couple of days and then rain again.  Maybe an inch on Tue night.  Wow General, that is a lot of rain.  I remember it rained that much here a few years ago.  I will never forget that.  Monsoons....

Our ribs turned out great.  With an hour left I diluted some bbq sauce with some red wine and rubbed it on them.  Worked great.

Morning.  Del, glad you had a great time up in the north country.  Always nice to just be there.  Woke up very early this morning around 1:30 am or so with what sounded like an explosion right next to our house.  Lightning/thunder, but I have never heard something this loud.  I'm sure all the neighbors were awaken as well.  Never really got back to sleep with the thunder rolling through the night.  Hope it's quiet tonight.  good luck.

I've noticed the few time I've been way too close to a lightning strike that it doesn't sound like normal thunder - it's like you described - an explosion.  You're too close for the sound to echo and rumble, it's just KABOOM!  Kind of like deer hunting, when a guy a little ways away shoots, you hear it echo and rumble through the trees or valley--you can hear the sound move.  But when you're the shooter, it's just BOOM! We had a thunder call like that one too, last night.  Definitely shook me out of bed.

Right after I moved here a neighbor asked me to jump in his boat and fish with him for awhile.  Sounded great to me.  After awhile it started lightening in the distance and was getting a little closer.  Fishing was good.  We were getting some walleyes and saugers.  Great time.  Soon his phone rang.  It was his wife.  She wanted him to come in.  I am thinking darn.  He said I have gotten struck or nearly struck by lightning twice and the wife is a little gun shy about this weather.  Then I thought, ya let's go in.   lol

One time my son and I were fishing north of Bemidji and their were storms to the south, but quite a ways away. You could hear the distant rumbling. Apparently there was a lot of juice in the air though. When we cast out our lines went up in the air instead of down on the water. We went back in. The end.

morning.  Got back from cabin yesterday and storms skirted us but pretty close.  Walleye fishing is crazy good still and we finally found the slabs on a different lake.  Had my son and buddy with me and we had a blast.

I picked up my dad's grave marker and am going to install it on Father's Day, he'd have wanted me to go to cabin and fish that weekend anyway right?  Love small towns, they let you put the thing in yourself and save $200 for a guy to dig a 6 inch rectangular patch and put the marker in.  Hopefully I put it in the right spot!

Looks like golf may be cancelled for tonight as the rain looks like it's coming.  We did only get 2 3/4 inches not the 3 1/2 I was thinking.  It's the daughters birthday today so I'm picking her up a new bike today.  Have a good one he fellas :happy1:

Finally able to get a chance to post on the Good Morning thread again! We've got most of the soybeans scouted and many fields are getting sprayed ahead pf the rain. Have a couple "executive jobs" to finish up today so that will work until the new rams we bought show up. We got the penning accommodations ready for them this a.m. Lots of bedding. If the stable flies weren't so nasty it looks like it would be a good place to take a nap! Adios!

Yep, coming in before the storm is a good idea.  My story is that I was fishing on Vermilion back in 99.   Got to looking awful dark over in the NW, and I saw some lightning so I cranked up and headed in.  Went past a bunch of folks obliviously fishing.

As I pulled in, a Neighbor lady yelled from her deck that they had bad wind in Grand Rapids.  I hadn't been back in the cabin for more than a few minutes when it hit.   That was the blowdown in 99.  Lost 7 trees in my yard, no power for close to a week since the transformer formerly on top of a pole was laying on the ground.   Boat was ok.

I wonder what it was like for those caught on the lake....

Del, I wonder if that was the year my wife and I were camping on a island on Boulder Lake near Duluth.  I think it was around the 4 th of July maybe.  We were getting ready to pack up and head back and I went down to the boat to clean the walleyes.  As I was filleting them up I noticed the far sky's were getting very dark, I mean black and this was mid day.  It was coming up fast.  I turned on the radio and the guy said that there was a tornado sighted near Cotton.  Well that's not that far from this lake.  The winds picked up and our tent was near the top of the hill.  Rain came and my wife, our two dogs, and myself went in the tent.

It got very dark, and I mean like night time.  Lightning, some hail, and rain.  I poked my head out the door of the tent and seen this wall of wind coming..  I seen it hit the islands in front of me as this wall went over them with the trees just bending big time.  I seen lightning hit one island with smoke coming out from a tree.  I looked at my wife and she was in good spirits and praying.  She told me everything will be fine.

That wall of wind hit us and our tent supports popped out of the soil and we went rolling over twice i think.  Us and the dogs.  Just as fast as that wall hit us it became almost calm with blue sky's soon after.  We crawled out of the tent and not one of those big white pine's craked or fell.  I  looked at our screen tent thinking that was history and there it stood.  Just a bunch of pine needles on it.  The boat was fine.  Well secured and in a protected spot, but did have to turn the bilge pump on.  we both thanked God big time.  I went down to finish the fish, packed up, and went back to the resort where we left from.  That place had some trailers tipped over.  We were soaked.  good luck.

In scenic wakemup village the storm lasted quite a while.  We were busy mopping and wiping rain water that blew through all the cracks and around the panels in the door.

There were pines maybe 18 inches in diameter down across the road.  Wife said it would be days before we got out.  Then the sound of chainsaws was heard.  Couple hours and the roads were open

atta boy Smurf!   Us lowely lumber salesman have been hard at it too.  I fed the dogs even and spent some time looking at fishing line on Cabelas.  Since I've bought the same mono for about 20 years it was a complete waste of time but fun anyway.

I bought two new reels yesterday.  Seemed a couple in the boat were a little rough in my opinion.  I'd say they've graduated to being bobber reels for the rest of their life and they should appreciate the new sedentary activity.

On last weeks anchoring/bobber topic I had one on Sunday afternoon.  The wind died but we were fishing in the wind in the morning and the fish were liking the wind then.  From what I could see we were the only boat on a 2500 acre lake and out came some guys and we were drifting a 200 yard stretch from a flag on shore to the west.  Most of the fish were by the flag pole.  Once we got past the flag the fellers pulled up and double anchored in our "public" lake spot.  If I would have known it was their spot we wouldn't have fished it at all.  Very rude of me and I feel bad I didn't drive over casting some 10 inch bucktails and apologize.  One of the dogs barked at them for a while...well trained hound I'd say.

The wind at that point was blowing at a perfect drift speed right down the shoreline, anchoring was dumb.  We went to another spot and found fish there, I'd like to take credit but the fish are still biting good.  Water is 64 about.

Steady rain here.  We have 3/4" and adding more to it.  I hope my roundup does it's job.  Sprayed 2 days ago so I should be ok.  I heard that alfalfa is about $35 an acre for seed.  I am only doing 1 1/2 - 2 acres so that is not that big of deal.

Sounds like you are a good walleye fisherman LL.  Gives me the urge to go fishing.  But being a Union guy like Smurfy the job is #1.   :rotflmao:  I will be taking some time off next week to goof off so looking forward to that.

Moning fellers, LL ya make me wann come down and jump in your boat, hide under the anchor rope and wen ya set sail, I jump out and surprise ya. Smurf has to get up this early to dust off his boots, its an all day affair. I started my second pork loin last night, first one didn't have the right amount of cure, then about a week into the brining, I was able to get the right cure and add it, my fridge is right abouve freezing if I turn it down anymore liquid will freeze, plue theres salt in the recipe of the brine and a lot of sodium in the packing solution and with the very cold temps Id say it fine. but to lean on the side of caustion, if I end up in the hospital over the weekend ya know why. so I started one with the appropriate cure. Hope to heading to cookies this weekend for Fathersday. All you guys have a great fathers day weekend, you deserve it, treat yourself good, and honor your father living and passed. Good day gents!

Morning all. Yep, raining good this morning. Last I looked a the rain gauge was 5 after 6 this morning and we had 1.2" then. That was just before I put my well worn, used everyday work boots on. ;). Being used everyday it doesn't take me all day to dust them off.  :rotflmao: I can't say I am to disappointed in the rain. Would be nice to see the lake come up some, it is pretty low right now. A person needs to be careful what they wish for though after 2 years ago when the lake got really high. Have a good day gents.

Hi all. Not much new here, just another day at the salt mines. And shocker, the wind is out of the east again today. Seems like this year the wind is constantly coming out of the east. Been like that since the ice started coming off of the lake. Got 1.5" of rain yesterday and looking like rain for the weekend again. Have a good day!

I'm off to the new cabin to replace the back door (destroyed due to bad footings on the mud room).  Also, if I have time I will replace the front and rear stairs (These were made 13 years ago and they did not use proper materials).  Good news is it's almost to the point where I will be able to go there and just hang out.

man has Summer really kicked in hasn't it?  Schools out, Fathers Day this weekend, and 4th of July right around the corner.  Gardens are growing, grass is being mowed, and we'll be eating corn on the cob like pigs pretty soon.  Just a month ago out fishing it was 29 degrees and barely a leaf was budding on a tree up north.  Thank God it's not Summer all year or my shrubs around my house would engulf everything.  Last night I had to trim some bushes down the steps in my backyard that had been trimmed in April already.

There's so much to do I haven't even smoked anything since fishing Opener when I plopped ribs on the Masterbuilt.  It will run it's course and by mid August I will be begging for October days.  Minnesota is awesome right now...February can wait!  Have a great day guys.  Swimming pool at RH's nudist joint will be packed this weekend.  Stop on by...I'm going fishing.
