'mornin'! I got sidetracked by work and trying to decipher boar's post before actually tickling the keyboard this a.m. Drizzly, cloudy and cool so far. 43 at last check and breezy. .02" of precip in Bugtussle and .01" at the ranch. Soil sampling has been a battle this fall. More like mud sampling as we dodge unharvested patches of beans within fields and struggle to get the soil back out of the probe once we get it in there. WD-40 helps but even it has its limitations. These are some tight sticky soils in these parts. That's a bummer LPS. I know the gas pipeline guys were around here for about a year but 4 years would get old in a hurry. Sounds like you could use a little tincture in yer coffee there glenn. Cures all maladies known to man or at least you forget about them after the 2nd or 3rd cup. Pretty sure that had to be Del in that video painting that VW Micro Bus Reb. Must've been from his Haight-Ashbury days.  :mysterymachine:

RH...try cleaning the end of that thermocouple with fine EMERY paper, and clean pilot end of gas tube with some alcohol....that just might do it.

I had pilot problems last year and learned about pilot sizes and pilot drills, My God are they touchy! Don't scrape or try to clean the pilot too much and bore it out or you'll have a blowtorch. I have a few drill sizes on each side of my pilot hole now and have a couple friends with fish houses glad I have them. I've been told Minnesota propane is very dirty.

ireiny, its either low pressure or  thermocupler. one thing to check wou be to take a small torch and heat the thermocouple and see if u can get it to stay lit.. one thing to check also is if youve disconected the tank fro the last years season, you could have mud bugs pluging the regulator. check that. im say thermo or pluged regulator

Steel wool is the best shot to clean the thremocouple,do it try it BUT a 1974 model is most likly a replacement part? Is the pilot flame in contact with the couples end? They can and move with traveling down the road especially gravel roads.
Built up soot insulates the couple and wont heat up enough to let the fuel valve to open.I still think replacement is on top over 40 years old

Thanks Dew.  You are probably right but I bought this about 12 years ago and only use it once a year at deer camp.  The guy I bought it from a guy who had it up at Mill Lacs and had it set up across from my buddy's trailer.  This guy only used it in the summer  and had it there the whole time.  Don't think he ever used the furnace much.  That's why it's in good condition generally.  The tires on there were new but having it stored there all that time I had to replace them just because they got old sitting there.  He just stayed there for fishing in the summer.  The stove took a beating but the inside of the oven is as new as the day he bought it.  Must of never used it.  So I didn't find any emery paper but I did get some fine steel wool while there and alcahol.  I will take the cover off and clean the furnace up good [take my small vacum there.  Then clean the burners and do what Reb said.  Hopefully that works, if not, replacement is due.  good luck.

That's a great bike, good and dependable runner too. I had to sell my 03 Fatboy 2 years ago because of back problems, still miss it on nice days. It is getting scary on a bike with all the people texting these days, I sure don't miss all the close calls I had.

A chilly 30* here this am, widespread frost. Second one already. Folks talking a hard winter, but I haven't noticed any signs of it yet here. Birds were crashing into my window all day yday; and the crab apple tree was loaded with ruby-crowned kinglets flitting about. Was able to get a quick pic before they flitted away.   ;) A bunch of geese went honking over head the last couple nites around 11:00PM. Noticed they had no running lights. Sure can hear them, though.  Looks like close to the 70's for the weekend...yay! Already heard someone say "looks like Indian Summer this weekend"....not quite yet, though......have a good one, guys!  :happy1:

'mornin'! After battling through paperwork and numerous phone calls it's time to exhale for a spell. 28 for a low so things got zapped pretty good. Hopefully the last of the mosquitoes were included in that zapping. It's drying up gradually so things are busting loose. Soybean harvest should wrap up this week if it holds off on significant precip through Saturday. Corn is dry with most in the 18 - 20% moisture range so it will fly through the dryer quickly. The worst thing is some are getting antsy about tillage. These are not very forgiving soils. Mess them up by working them wet and you may pay for it not only the next year but sometimes for several years to come.

Not in Reb's world. And I still decorate with Indian corn. And eat Indian pudding.  And he's still Injun Joe in Huckleberry Finn.  Only not in the world of the whiny crybaby wimps.  :coffee:

Good afternoon.  I had to do some driving earlier for work today so thought I better check in with you guys.  Did we use flitting for the word of the day yet.  I see it bandied around today..  I think we did use it recently so let's try bandied.  To toss back and forth or to give and receive....  I already used it in my sentence today.....   ;)   It is a beautiful day here.  Nice and sunny which hasn't happened much lately.  Feels great.  Supposed to be in the upper 50's tomorrow and Saturday.  Not sure if we will do a one night camp out for the last one of the year or just work around the place with the nice weather this weekend.  I got 2 round straw bales so we will put them over the septic tank soon.  Makes me feel better just knowing we did it.  Maybe I will even get something done after work...  I will have to bandy that idea around when I get home...
