We came out of Quetico to the parking lot on Beaverhouse... Buddy's Expedition had a leaking brake line.   Drove carefully and bought brake fluid at first opportunity.   Filled up reservoir several times and made it to the falls.   It was a weekend, but luckily there were some guys at the ford dealer working on their personal cars.   Cash changed hands and a new brake line was installed.

All's well that ends well, but the first 60 miles or so was a little tricky.

No fun when the brakes go out. I had it happen on my blazer a couple years ago. Was pulling into the parking lot here at work and the pedal just went right to the floor. Was a tricky drive home. lots of down shifting. the bright side is I put new brakes and calipers all the way around. It was the caliper that blew on me. OH, almost forgot. Morning. Have a good one.

Morning all.  I will check my brakes as I go out the driveway this morning...    :-)  Nice morning here.  Caught one nice 26" or so walleye last night.  Didn't take it out of the water to measure it.  Got lots of little saugers and walleyes.  My buddy in his boat next to me got a 29" real fat northern.  He gave it to me so I have it filleted and is in the frig.  Will be pickled fish.  Haven't done that for years but Glenn inspired me to give it a go with his earlier project.  No work for me tomorrow so TGIT....

Just a reminder, if you gonna pickle that pike raw it needs to get frozen for a while (a week maybe?)   so you don't get any intestinal surprises.   If you cook it in the process, then never mind.

Just hate to see an associate get problems.... Except for Reb.  He's on his own.

From our extension friends at the U of Mn....

Pickled fish

Deb Botzek-Linn

In Minnesota, we can enjoy pickled northern, sucker, trout, and salmon among others.

The first step in producing safe, home-pickled fish is to kill the larvae of the broad fish tapeworm, a parasite that can infect humans. It is most common in northern pike, but is found in several Minnesota fish.

There are two schools of thought on how to destroy the tapeworm. With the first, simmer fish in pickling brine to 140° F. This does not affect the flavor or the texture of pickled fish. Or, if you are pickling raw fish, freeze it at 0° F for 48 hours prior to brining. Either method kills the parasite.

Maybe just the brain worm and you just don't know it because, well, we know why.   ;) :rotflmao: TGIF boys. Another weekend is nearing closer for us. No big plans, maybe put out another trailcam or two. Have a good one all.

We have 44 to start, warm, windy, & a chance of some showers this afternoon into tonight is their forcast. We can sure use some rain here. A lot of 4-6 & it even looked like some 8#'s in the pens over at Cutfoot when we stopped on our way home yesterday. It looks like we have getting the lift in the lake at the top of the list today, see how far we get. It's nice having a little extra time to get our Spring projects done up here. :happy1: I hope you all have a good day

Thank you, Mr. curbstone lawyer!  Who even mentioned the word shoot? Birds often fly into windows and get killed. I think I've got a window somewhere that I removed...*WHACK*!  Oh, look, da birdie hit a window!! Poor birdie!!   :rotflmao:

Good morning. Repeat of the last four days. Cloudy. 47* Rain and T-storms coming. Hail, Swampville.

In the meantime, watch out for those worms.

Morning all.  Rebs I heard again about the gator on the radio yesterday.  Have they got him yet?  Good thing it is not swimming season yet.  I am heading out on the river in half an hour.  SO I am having 2 JOHNSONVILLE BRATS.  THEN WE WILL BE GRABBING THE FRABILL!!!   hubba_hubba-404.gif :rotflmao:  They taste pretty good.  Havn't had them in a long time.  Put some homemade horseradish on them and some CATSUP...   I love our horseradish.  East to make too.  Caught a couple of 26 ish eyes last night and kept 2 14's.  Let some little ones go too.  Taking a friend out today.  Never fished with him before but will be a good time.    Last day of the season today.  The telephone guy told me he saw 37 boats between Washkish and Baudette heading this way.  Hope they all go to the lake.  Have a great day all....

Not low cal.  Made 3 cakes and a 13 by 18 tart with pastry cream and fresh fruit for the family get together at Easter.    Like 25 people at my niece's house in St Paul.

The hummingbird cake is a new one for me, as is the lemon bliss.  Third is "peanut patch"  which we have been making since the 70's.

I don't know why it is called a hummingbird cake.  Ask southern living magazine.   No hummmmmming birds were harmed baking this cake.

Custard, pastry cream.  Half and half.  egg yolks, sugar, corn starch.

Whatever.
