"up where you guys live, and it's REALLY cold, do they tell you to cut back on yer power usage?!!

I don't know about where it is REALLY cold, but Lake Country Power up aroung Cook and so forth goes to a lot of expense and trouble to get folks to put in dual fuel heat that can switch from electricity to propane and to put in water heaters that can be remotely shut off.   Also off peak heating.  and off peak water heating.

Morning boys. Yep up here people that are on off peak can get thAt power shut off when the demand gets to high. We have wood heat so no off peak for us. -22 this morning, supposed to get up to -8 or so for a high today. Getting ready to go cut a load of firewood if I can ever get my wife out of bed. Just another day in Paradise. Have a good one.

Mornin boys, only -16 to start our day here. Its a pretty short list again today ;) but I'm sure I'll find somethin that gets me outside this am. Havta see how long it takes today before I can't take it anymore. Yeah Del it's dual source here. LP furnace & electric for boiler & in floor for basement & garage. Heat pump, which doesn't run much this time of year, & water heater are electric too. Our power, which is at a big discount because of the dual source, comes from NIEC in Big Fork though. Looked like the neighbor was out in his flip over again yday afternoon, it didn't look to me like he stayed very long. That's all I've got for today. have great Saturday everybody. :happy1:

Mornin' gang! Right about 0 at choretime w/a little lite snow. Supposed to accumulate <1/2". Chores are getting more labor intensive but that way I stay warm.

Dual fuel here as well, electric hot water heater, LP forced air furnace & electric boiler on the floor heat in the new addition & garage. Shop plans are tentatively to use LP and outdoor wood boiler w/floor heat for that. A lot of unwanted trees to take down in the fenceline. Enjoyed burning wood when we lived in a place with a wood stove too. And my wood burning sauna back in ND. Brought new meaning to the words "hot chicks" or was it "Sweaty Betty's'?  :rotflmao:

Ok, guess it does happen. Figgered with the big city crap from the power companies (just finished 2 wks of back and forth with CAWchester RPU to prove a voltage problem was on THEIR end...it was) that they should be able to generate enough power without cutbacks...since we don't do LP and wood in the "big city". It happens in the summer here, too, "peak energy alerts".

I have dual heat here too.  Electric and propane.  Propane is so cheap now that it is much better to use propane.  Haven't used the electric part of the furnace for about 3 years.  BUT our front room has electric baseboard heating.  When they control which can be a few hours everyday it gets cold.  SO we have to plug in a little electric heater to compensate.  I bought a real nice St. Croix pellet heater and put it in the front room when propane prices went through the roof.  Man it heated almost the whole house and felt great.  Now that propane is so cheap we haven't used it for 2 years.  -15 here right now.  I like seeing smoke come out of the chimney in the garage. Cutting the dead trees in the grove makes the grove look nicer and gives me heat and exercise.  Not much going on today and that is fine with me.  Hey I finally got my 2nd shingles shot.  They have been short of it for months and called the other day.  My shoulder has been sore for 3 days.  Never had a shot that bothered me that long.

Dual fuel here was a matter of power outage issues when storms go thru too. Put a double throw switch on the pole & have a 25 KW pto generator. We can run the well, microwave, LP stove & LP furnace. I can shut the electric boiler down altho I should have plenty of power to operate it if I want. Ran across a generator a dairy farmer had a few years after the Halloween storm. He couldn't run the silo unloader & barn cleaner at the same time with it.

Snowing good here at 10*. Slickery as heck out. Had to go pick up my prescrips at Wallymart. What a zoo! Place was packed with people "stocking up for the storm". Idjit drivers everywhere, almost got smacked twice on my way to Fareway to get some groceries. People just don't get you need to slow down and drive carefully!!! Sure like the new biters on the truck, no spinning when I start out in snow, and they seem a lot better thru the turns on the ice/snow. They were rated 5 stars for those things. Happy to see the ratings were right, so far.
Just made some hard-boiled eggs, figgered I needed at least one to go with my braunschweiger and onion sandwich. Plus, they'll add a certain eggy effluvium to any by-product greenhouse gas produced later on... ;)

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN
336 PM CST Sat Jan 26 2019

...HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY...

.A potent clipper system is still on track to shift southeast from
the Dakotas into Iowa then to Michigan Sunday through Monday. This

central Minnesota through the Twin Cities metro to around the Eau
Claire area, with lesser amounts towards northern Minnesota,
southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

Therefore, Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for all of
central and southern Minnesota through western Wisconsin, with the
exception of a small portion of southwestern Minnesota south of
the Minnesota River. In these areas, a Winter Weather Advisory has
been issued.

Snowfall amounts in the warning area can be expected to range from
6 to 9 inches. Snowfall amounts in the advisory area can be
expected to range from 3 to 6 inches.

This system is expected to cause significant travel impacts,
especially Sunday night through the Monday morning commute.
