Ugh!  Where ya at?

At the risk of scaring away volunteers, what do you have to do with the hide you are working on and where do they go when you are done with them?

Steve-o We're in the Alexandria area. We pick up hides for Minnesota Deer Hunters Assc. All hides are sold to a company in Wisc. and out of the that money the state MDHA gets a small percentage and the remainer goes to the chapters that collect the hides. We (Alex Chapter) use the money for habitat projects like land accusations, conservation seed for food plots, apple trees, etc. Two years ago MDHA collected it's one millionth hide. I think all totaled over the years about five million dollars from hide collections has been put back into habitat projects around the entire state. As far as prepping the hides we have to pick them up, stretch them out flat and lay them on a pallet skin side up. We'll put about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound of salt (Barry) on each of them and that's it. We only ask that you don't include heads, legs and or use plastic bags. Especially black ones. If its above 40 degrees or so and the hides are in a box or someone's garage for a couple of days they get an unforgettable smell......along with some critters that can be used for fishing bait. Hope that answers your questions.  :happy1: :happy1:

Morning boys. 33 when I left home and we had about an inch of snow on the ground. Still a little coming down to. Must have been lake effect. Because the further I got away from the lake the snow disappeared. Don't think it is supposed to warm up much either. Getting a couple deer pics on my camera this morning. Really hope the daughter sees something today.  She goes home tomorrow. Grandson and his fiance are coming up tonight to hunt. I have Thursday and Friday off work to hunt. Hit it hard for the last weekend. Otherwise just another day in the salt mines. Have a good one boys.

It's a tad bit white here with another shot of snow coming. That's OK, it does that this time of the year. I'd like to get the 3/4 ton washed up today after using it for hides yesterday. Also have a 1/2 a pickup box full of heads and legs in the other truck that need to go to the dump too. Have to see what the weather wants to do today. Might just stay in and clean rifles or something. Later..... :happy1: :happy1:

Mornin all, 34 here & that's the high for the day too.The eye appt took a little longer than we expected as the Dr. saw some stuff she wasn't totally happy about. So, she did a quick little repair while she was at it & said see you in a year. Still back here by about noon. It rained all the way down but was dry coming home yday. A local station said we had 1.1" here & most were predicting closer to 1.5". Could have some early afternoon snow showers here today too. 'Bout it here, have a good day.

Morning boys.  I slept as late as Jake would let me.  Easier to just get up once he gets fired up.  LOL  We have 33 at the house.  The radio said 30 with a wind chill of about 20 in Warpath. AND yes we have snow on the ground.  Makes it look cold outside.  I am sure glad I put that hot air duct by my office chair.  I can really feel this corner is much warmer now.  :happy1: :happy1: No more electric heater by me now. Bobb I am getting the same way.  I think about safety to myself more than I used to.  I always carry my phone with me too just in case.  Even around the acreage here at home.  Can't be too safe.  Thanks for the play by play of the hides Mark.  Sure hope you get help with all of that back breaking work.  It is going to be a stay inside and read and cook later on day for me.  You all have a good one and like we said, stay safe.

Mornin' fellow gulag comrades! 30 at choretime heading for a high around 33. Lotsa greasy skid stuff out there as Cannon used to say. About .1" of snow melted out to .01" of liquid equivalent precip. Slick as snake snot. Laptop keyboard is supposed to show up this a.m. Can't wait. It has been a royal PITA all week. It took forever to type this so far so will switch over to the phone. Also a hassle but at least I expect that to write in boaranese due to my sausage fingers not randomly like it's been doing.

Had a good day yesterday. Got the apples all cleaned up under the Sno Sweet tree & performed surgery to hopefully make it into an apple tree again. Our little March buck lamb won his class yesterday at the NAILE in Louisville. Been a few years since we won anything down there so that was fun to watch on the live feed from the show ring. March ewe lamb finished 5th which was about where she belonged. We have a better one at home.

Good morning All.  A bit breezy out this morning making it feel almost like winter.  Going to haul a couple more loads of dirt for a project today as I am not sure I will be able to after this week.  At least going to get it on site.  That will keep me entertained for at least part of the day.    Have a great day All.

Mornin boys, got a NW wind @ almost 30 & it's 31*, so that makes it 18 with the WC. We might see 34 before the day's over but I still think I'll break out the Carhart today. The grass had a little white tint to it by noon as it was spittin snow by about 9 yday morning. Nothing real important on the list again today, so I'll probably head up to Y for a bit again today. No more now, have a good day.

Dr. appt at 9:30 and 11:30 today. Need to stop by the vet for a bug pill for the dog and the hospital to pay a bill. They ASSUMED I would pay it online. Which is news to me. I informed them I don't pay anything online because I'm an old fart and don't care if I have to write out a check and buy a $.70 stamp. It gives me something to do while drinking coffee in the morning. I did get my cabinets in the garage stapled back together and ready for the grinder, stuffer and the all the goodies that go with them. Have a great day all. later..... :happy1: :happy1:

Morning boys.  We may see 38 today.  I see it is snowing right now.  That kind of says it all for the day.  No plans here other than stay warm and out of trouble. May watch some football tonight. Other than that have a good one.

Mornin' fellow gulag comrades! 29 at chore time heading for a high in the mid-thirties. Hard to tell exactly how much snow we got but prolly a half inch, amounting to another .04" of liquid equivalent precip at the ranch. Not going to guess on the amount in Bugtussle as it appears we were getting some blowing off the roof of the Corn Palace. Got my confuser back with the new keyboard installed. So far so good. Lucky to have computer geek as a friend and customer. He was impressed with the job we'd done on cleaning it out prior to his opening the laptop up. No dog hair, dirt or residue of any kind. I can feel perhaps a little different touch with the new keyboard but the main thing is it works & continues to do so. Otherwise I will have to have glenn send me back some of that valuable merchandise I've mailed him so I can afford another laptop.  :coffee:

I agree markn. I got my credit card statement & paid it. Seemed a little high so checked it out. Looks like the dipsticks at Treasure Island billed me for another room in addition to the one I stayed in on our fall cruise! It was a PITA trying to reserve a room & took several attempts before they said they had it straight. Now it appears they didn't. If I'd been able to pay with a check or cash, none of this would've happened. Now I've got a battle on my hands trying to correct their mistake.

I do some online banking to keep tabs on things but still write paper checks & make deposits in person. The online banking feature is nice when dealing with the accountant. A lot less paper needed. It's also handy for making transfers when I mail high quality merchandise to glenn. :coffee:
