Morning boys. 25 here and that is supposed to be the high. Looks like it will slowly go down from there today. Getting the wifey ready for work then I think I will head out fishing for awhile. Do some ice checking too. I am thinking of bringing my big house out today if all goes well. Cut firewood and loaded woodshed yesterday. Also did some garage cleaning and got some things out away. About it here. Have a good one boys.

We got our hides and tails loaded and headed to Wisc. yesterday. Final count was 497 hides and 397 tails. Think I'll bring in the axel from my old trailer for measurements to make a cut list and then figure out if I can afford to buy the steel to build a new 5x10 trailer. Shot trap on Sunday, three rounds and no misfires from the reloads so I'm pretty happy about that. Now I can reload some more, like another 40 boxes. Later..... :happy1: :happy1:

Morning boys.  Like JB, we have 25 and may be at the high already.  So Mark, you have hides and tails.  What tails?  Deer tails?  My buddy is coming over to do some more welding so will get a fire going so he is warm.  He wants to cut up a downed tree for me but I may try to hold him off till spring.  Not sure if I want to get involved in the project yet.  We shall see.  Would be nice to have it done. Well you all have a great New Years Eve.  I am going to.  LOL

markn, LPS.  This fall our MDHA Chapter "Sherburne County Swampbucks" collected 1150 deer hides. The hide buyer pays extra $$ for deer tails. There's a huge market on the east and west coast for the long hair that is used to make, drum roll please, "Bucktail" fishing lures.  We cut the tails off the hides. Normally we get 3 tails for every 4 deer hides collected. No, I don't think one out of 4 deer are running around without a tail, but some people keep them or perhaps they are just left behind with the legs and head. Speaking of legs and heads, if you donate your deer hides, (thank you) and please do not put heads and legs into the orange MDHA hide boxes as it just contributes to our workload and expenses.

I know a lot of musky/pike lures are made with deer tails. When we pull the hide off of our deer alot of the times the tail stays with the carcus. I will have to make a note to cut them off and put them in the box. Didn't know they were wanted in the boxes.

Mornin' fellow gulag comrades! 29 at choretime, likely to be the high for the day as the temp has fallen a few degrees. Lotsa action at the ranch the past 24 hrs. Got the tractor ready to take down to the neighbor's & spied a new lamb out of the corner of my eye. Got the tractor to Jon's & came back to find there were 2 new lambs. Got that stabilized altho one isn't likely to make it. Yearling ewe, doesn't milk great. It happens. This morning a repeat performance, older ewe, one of the lambs not as thrifty as the other so we'll see. My days of going above & beyond are getting shorter. If I gotta make them live, and they produce offspring, no one else is gonna wanna deal with that either. Sad but true.

Thanks deadeye. You guys can leave the tails on the hides. We'll cut them off. Local welding shop where I buy my steel at was closed when I called yesterday so I'm not sure yet if I need a bank loan to buy steel for the trailer or not. I may have a nice 1,000 pound torsion axle with two wheels for sale cheap and buy a nice 6 1/2x12 enclosed trailer instead. Decisions, decisions. Happy New Year and have a great day, later......... :happy1: :happy1:

Morning boys. 8 above here heading for a high of 13. It was a bit windy yesterday. I fished until noon yesterday. It was really slow fishing. Hoping today is better. I was able to pull my bigger house out yesterday. Mark, we skin our deer as soon as we get them back to camp. Usually while they are still warm. Easier to skin. Most times when we are pulling the hide off of the bottom end the tail rips off of the hide and stays right on the body. That's how it gets separated. Well, a couple of buddies are heading up fishing for the day from north of Grand Rapids. Have a good one boys.

Happy New Year!  It is fairly dark here yet.  Twilight sort of.  8 above.  Will hope to see 14 later on.  We ended up with a solid inch of real light fluffy snow from the snowfall yesterday.  Maybe 2".  No wind yet.  I think the wind would blow it away. No plans here today.  Just stay warm here in the love shack and eat some good food.  Mayhaps some of those huge shrimp I bought.  You all be safe and have a great day!  I have always kind of wanted an enclosed trailer too.  Then I could fill it full of stuff and call it a shed on wheel.  LOL

Mornin' fellow gulag comrades! 18 at choretime, heading for a high around 22. 10 - 15 mph NW wind making me long for my facial hair covering once again. Light dusting of snow on the pickup this a.m. I have to get a load of hay today ~ 11 today so it'll be a thriller for sure. Not sure if I'll unload & stack the whole thing but I'll make a dent in it. Lambs are doing OK so far. One of them was hopping already so that's always a good sign at one day old, especially as cold as it's been. Ewe is taking good care of them. Poppy & I better go fill some birdfeeders. She saw her squirrel from the window so we can't have that.  :coffee:

Mornin gang, we've got 16 here & we're headed for 26, they're sayin. Below normal temps for all of next week starting tomorrow in the 10-day.  I'm headed back to the dentist this morning  as they say I should have a crown put on 1 of my upper back teeth. They'll be prepping for that today. 'Bout it here, have a good day.

Morning boys.  We have 8 here and may make 11.  I see the TV is pixelated but the internet is working. Still having problems evidently.  Hope it doesn't get worse.  Just going to keep things warm here today and may get time to trim dogs toenails.  That means vacuuming too of course.  We shall see.  We have an EGO blower and other things and finally yesterday was the perfect day to use the blower to clean the light fluffy snow off the deck and steps.  Worked great and only took minutes.  Have tried it before but wasn't the right kind of snow.  The new EGO light snowblower works pretty good too.  Well have a good one.  Later.

Mornin' fellow gulag comrades! 14 at choretime, heading for a high in the low 20's. Supposed to see some partial sunshine. Won't argue. Still have one lamb inside altho we moved it to the attached garage this a.m. Maybe move it back outside again if the weather cooperates. Might be wishful thinking w/the forecast. Has been a battle keeping this group alive. Too damn cold and windy. These lambs were smaller. The wind can suck the heat right out of them if they aren't super aggressive & their mothers aren't on the ball. The lambs are all ewes so at least there is that. Got my load of hay home but punted on unloading it yesterday. Didn't want to open the barn up with the wind & newborns inside. Mebbe this afternoon. Also got my tractor back yesterday. Jon made it look purty. As purty as you can make 1500# worth of split weights look anyway. When/if it works, I can start hauling manure. If the pack gets too froze I may have to stockpile it & haul it whenever. Have never sheared a pin on this spreader and don't want to start now.

Thanks Barry. Jon really does nice work, he does it quickly & by himself. Each section of those split weights weighs 75# so I asked him if he wanted help hanging the last 600# worth and he politely said, "No, I have a forklift for that". Translation: I would've just been in his way. His dad is the same age I am so he knows... :rotflmao: Jon fixed  the oil leaks too so at least the tractor won't be marking its territory when I park it anymore.  :embarrassed:
