hey Dotch.....any info o frost depth???????

Yes & soil temperature. Frost depth at the SROC Experiment Station in Waseca was 23" under bare ground as of Feb. 3rd. Soil temperature is something being talked about as well. I know some kinda think that if it's frozen, it's 32 degrees but the soil temp gets colder than that, just like air temperatures. When soil temps get down to 20, it starts impacting pests such as western corn rootworms. The mortality increases with the duration and drop in temperature from there. Some of the soil temps especially as we move north have been well below that especially at the 2" due to light snow cover or complete lack of it like around here. The one positive about the wet weather last spring was it raised hob with rootworms after they hatched. Part of it was saturated soils lacked oxygen and many of them suffocated. There may have been disease organisms afoot as well, thinning the herd. Add in some sub-20 degree winter soil temps and any eggs laid by those that survived will suffer increased mortailty.

Here's a link to a bunch of data for your perusal. Not a fan of the new NDAWN system they've gone to as far as weather data at the Experiment Stations. Not very user friendly. A lot of crap to wade thru when you just wanna cut to the chase.

Morning boys.  We have 1 and may see 18.  1-3" of snow later this afternoon and another 1-3" overnight.  We shall see.  Looks like we are on the western edge of it.  I will just keep on rolling.  May have to take a trip to town to pay some bills as I see the wife writing out checks.  Well you all hang in there.

Mornin guys, 2 now here & we're headed towards 20 also. The hourly says snow starting ~ 6 & finishing up by ~ 2 am with up to 4" possible. The TV guy's map says more like 2-4" for us with the heavier amounts up in the Arrowhead. Big winds, gusts to 40, tomorrow pm though. We got back here around 1 yday & I found #4 out of 5 of my 1099s in the mailbox. So, after unloading the car I started on my taxes. I spent about an hour & got as far as I can go until I hear from Social Security. :happy1: I think I'll suit up & go blow some the snow we already have into the woods. Have a good day.

Mornin fellow gulag comrades! 6 for an overnite low, 8 at choretime, heading for a high in the upper 20's. Some lite snow later with little or no accumulation expected. Wind should pick up tomorrow with gusts to 30 mph. Another ewe lambed this a.m. At this rate we'll be half lambed out before the shearer can get here. That's OK but it makes it a bigger hassle catching them & trying to avoid injuring the lambs sometimes. We'll get 'em done. Alien has upped the ante a little. Nasty cough occasionally & I don't feel warm sometimes. Still got the chores done and watched a webinar. A high school friend sent me a pic of a '64 Chrysler Newport he recently purchased, same model as the one he drove in high school. Beautiful car! Did a lot of cruising in it back in the day. Hopefully he can go to BTT50's.

Morning boys. 8 here and supposed to make 9 today. Still lightly snowing this morning. Looks like 3"-4" of snow looking out the window. The wind is supposed to be cranking today. So that will be fun with the fresh snow. Should probably have some clean up to do tonight. Otherwise just getting ready for another day in the salt mines. Have a good one boys.

Mornin all, we have 7 & it appears that's the high for today too. I stepped out for a bit early & it looked like we got 2, maybe 3", but that was out back where it blows off the roof too. Probably jump on the Grizzly in a bit & make 3-4 passes up & back on the driveway before the wind really gets cranking. Just in case we want to get out, which I doubt will happen. Not much else on my list, have a good day.

Morning boys.  We have 7 here and looks like 3-4" here too.  Some wind but not cranking yet.  I sent the wife to work with my truck since it sits outside now.  Then I can plow easier too without it in my way.  I am not going to rush into anything today.  Got up twice in the night with explosive diarrhea. Don't know what brought that on.  I asked the wife if the wind was going to clean off the deck.  She said well that isn't gonna happen.  LOLOL

PS  took a shot of Maalox before bed.  I just read that it can cause diarrhea.

On tap for today is to move the trailer out of garage and put the BIL's enclosed one in its place. He's coming over after work tomorrow to seal coat the inside and add a couple of ty-downs. After that plow out the inch and half of snow we got last night. Later...... :happy1: :happy1:

Hang in there Barry. I get to go thur that two to three times a month due to a very invasive surgery for cancer 14 years ago, but I'm still on the green side of the grass. :happy1:

Mornin' fellow gulag comrades! 13 for a low at choretime, heading for a high in the low 30's. .3" of snow at the ranch melted out to .04" of liquid equivalent precip. Same in Bugtussle. Presently W wind at 15 mph but is supposed to pick up to 20 - 30, gusting to 45.

A regular circus in the lambing barn last nite & this a.m. The ewe that started lambing ~5:30 p.m. kept pushing but every time you'd get close to her, she'd get up and run off in the dark. Almost gave up after chasing her around off and on until midnite when I was able to get her in the lambing barn to see WTH was up. Yearling ewe, dumber than a box of rocks. Could see a huge nose and a couple feet starting to come out of her. Legs were tucked back, so managed to get them pulled out straight, grabbed the legs with my left hand, got right my hand up behind the lamb's head and pulled like hell. Monster buck lamb about the size of a small calf. Usually about 3 hours of labor and things go south in a hurry. Was sure it was dead after 6 hours of messing around but it coughed, shook its head & kinda sputtered to life. Gave the ewe some antibiotic, got that situation under control & then went to bed ~1 a.m. Wife woke me up ~ 3 a.m. and wanted me to tube feed that lamb some colostrum which I did. It hadn't nursed yet and was still pretty wobbly from the rough landing earlier. Figured we had ourselves another bottle lamb on our hands so cleaned up the bottle & tube, then went back to sleep.

Woke up ~ 7 and when we got to the lambing barn, there was a fresh lamb outside with no ewe in sight. Arrrggghhhh!!!! Stuck that one in an empty pen & found the ewe tucked up in a corner of the lot on the outside of the lambing barn with another lamb she'd had. Grabbed the lamb and the ewe followed me into the barn where I put that lamb in with the one we found a few minutes earlier. Fortunately both lambs mouths were still warm so they hadn't been completely chilled. Even more fortunately, the ewe accepted both lambs. To top that, they both nursed while we were doing chores. The icing on the cake though was the monster lamb I'd pulled from the overnite hooked on to his mother & had a big, long drink. Finners crossed that it won't be necessary to bottle feed him.

Ya, well, it's a disease glenn. If the lamb didn't taste so good, they'd be outta here.

Hope your day goes well markn with what your doctoring for. Forgot about that with all the action around here. Hope you got well stocked up on A.W. Barry before the fun started.  :happy1:

Good morning All.   Temps are falling but the wind...wow.   We got about 4-5" of snow and wind is stacking it up.  Visibility is pretty dang low right now.  I think I am going to just stay laying low today.

Dotch....nice car your buddy got.

Mornin boys, we've got 3 for our start & they're sayin 16 will be our high. I see a couple places reported that we had 4" here last time & I can believe that pretty easy. TWC's site says < 1" in the next 48 for us. The 10-day looks pretty chilly starting Monday, so cleaning up the last snow will be priority #1 the next few days here. Nothin else really in the plans anyway. Have a great Friday!! :happy1:

8 balmy degrees here in God's country. The weather terrorists reduced the snow totals for here. Dotch must have put his tractor chains on.
