Own Lake shore in MN.

 Got 1 year to comply to a 50ft buffer.The state now has a system that will fine anyone in noncompliance!!
 We have 80-100 ft of cattails in 2005 I had the DNR mark OHW level and cut to it planted trees and now have to leave 50ft untouched no mowing or disturbimh that 50 ft of MY property!! It should help pheasants an some wildlife

That is interesting. Didn't know lake of the woods was included in that. I can tell you where it is not going to happen. I think fit is going to hit the shan when land owners start getting fined.

If it's lake shore you don't need a buffer. The buffer law only relates to river, streams, and ditches. They wanted it on lakes also but that was dropped from the original bill. But, having said that, your county has the right to require a buffer zone on any of it's lakes.

I also read that in a newspaper. Wish I could find it again.What got me is counties have no authority as they did since the early 70s when county commissioners were county Reps. Mostly farmers in outstate Mn and they didnt uphold to the one rod buffer enacted since 1971 or so.The clean water act. Now water districts are in charge no more county officials are involved!! Well unless they serve on a water board.
 Our water board is in Spicer MN. 8 miles away.stopped by and they said they'follow the map approved by the people who participated with the DNR for rules.Looking at the maps all lakes require 50 ft natural above OHW. Thats what I got a few months back qhen I got inquisitive
 Kandiyohi county had a 37 ft natural zone above OHW since I moved here in 2000 wasnt mandatory but suggestive.

That is what I got looking at the map too. Looks like the lake shore needs a 50' buffer. Oh well, unless I get notified I am not going to worry about it.

 There was a article in yesterdays westcentralTribune about the new rules,I'm searching for it on the net to post it.I was really searching for the article RoO mentioned.  so far all I found is this one that is of any importance to get the gist of new rules.

I cant find a lot out there cept for the DNR article either??
 I did send a question to the DNR 3 times now since 2015,without any replies that question is>> OK we have to leave 50ft untouched from where?? The Ordinary high water level?? When will the DNR mark OHWL on the lakes.

 Yes I am giving them a hard time!!! I had OHW marked 3 times each time it moved 2- 4 ft. I got a $240 fine after the second cut I did then they came out again an shot it in every 6 ft.The Spicer office shot two points and said cut cattails from point a to b.Then authority moved from Spicer to NewUlm they came out and fined me and I had no documentation of the Spicer office showin 2 points and saying cut it straight through!! OUR DNR At work for you!!
