I've heard a lot of other guys say they are way over rated.  I will stick with my spinning reels.

I disliked everything about it. Seemed it was either free-spool or to tight, the line goes on weird, you have to keep your hand on the spool all the time or line spins off easily, just didn't feel right. I only used it for shallow 6-10 ft water which to me is the only application but I have $20 cheapie, can't remember the brand right now, from when they first came out I don't mind and still use it on occasion with a very light Roach noodle rod. My ice fishing crappie time is way too relaxed to hassle with a reel. Absolutely hated myself for paying as much as they cost too! Gosh I enjoyed tossing it down the hole.

I have to agree with whoever said it hawg.  Now that whoever said it, it does look like someone cut their arm open on your avatar.    I read your explanation and it is a good read.  One heck of a walleye.

I see what yur saying about the first reels. I have one like that, I only use it for dead sticking walleyes. But, this is a different design that has a freefall feature that can be done with one hand, then lock up when you take your finger off the trigger. My old black betty I could do without, but I think I like this idea.

I don't have a black betty  but I did buy a couple of Frabile reels that look pretty much the same.  Got them on sale at Thorne Brothers.  Real and rod were $38 and said half price.  I like these reals for panfish but I did catch some trout on them.  A 4 pound laker at Grindstone was taken using this one with 4 pound test in 5 feet of water.  I'm switching over from spinning reels to these type of reels and casting reels for hard water.  Less twisting of lines is the main reason. good luck.
