That's the start of it. Got three tubs of it. (Big bowls) Freeze it all.  Every year I make about 3 tubs of that, and ....chicken noodle. Onion beef. 'tato with sausage. Beef barley. Hellfire chili. Bean 'n ham. Split pea with ham. That gives me 30 or more tubs, usually carries me thru to Spring.

Now that's a great idea Rebs.  When I make a batch we eat it for 4 days till its gone.  The wife usually makes it to the 3rd day.  That would be a great way to kill time in a productive way.  I am craving ham and bean and think I am going to buy a half ham when we get home. I have been putting the whole pkg of carrots and celery in it too lately.

Thanks! I find it relaxing, and helps me get my mind off stuff for awhile. All the soups freeze well.
Give this a try...my bean 'n ham soup. Guaranteed Reb-o-licous.  :rotflmao:

             Bean ‘n Ham Soup

1 16 oz bag of Navy or Great Northern beans
3 smoked ham hocks plus ham trimmings/chunks, about 2 cups, or you can use 2 thin-cut cooked and smoked ham steaks, cubed
1 tsp salt
½ tsp Basil or 2 Basil leaves
¼ tsp Rosemary
6-8 peppercorns
2 Qts (8 cups) water
1 large onion, chopped coarse
2-3 ribs of celery, diced small
2 chopped carrots, (or baby carrots),  about 1 good full cup
8-10  drops of liquid smoke
Veggies should equal 2 full cups PLUS ½ onion.
Soak beans overnight in 2 qts. of water, then drain. Combine first 7 items, except the cubed ham/ham steak, and bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer covered for 2 hrs, stirring occasionally. Take out hocks and Basil leaves; remove and return to soup any meat from bones. Stir in onion, celery, carrots , cubed ham, liquid smoke, and continue simmering, covered, for 45 mns - 1 hr. or until beans and veggies are tender. Remove cover and let soup thicken as desired.

Only thing in soup that doesn't freeze well is potatoes, in my experience.

Cooked sausage, meaning ground seasoned pork kind of sausage? Do you grow your own basil?

I'd be a little worried about what sauces he may use in it though.   :rotflmao:

This is what I'm making today.... I hope it doesn't taste really salty, both these mixes have high sodium.

Sounds good to me.....a toss a tater cut in 4 chunks in there to soak up salty taste. Old chef's trick that works.
