Fun morning on the Mississippi today! Multiple species day Gar, Drum, Cats, Sunnies, Perch, Bass, and of course Walleye!  We got Dana on her first Walleye ever and it was a real nice one!

When fishing the Mississippi River dams can be a great place to look for fish!  All species of fish will be up by the dams.  Good oxygen levels, cooler water tempatures, and an abundance of food are reasons for fish to come up to the dam.  Heavy hair jigs or blade Baits are key lures to catching fish in current.  River rig is also a great way to put fish in the boat.  (River Rig- egg weight, bead, swivel, usually 18in leader (mono or braid), and what I like to use chartreuse hook with a trailer when using a worm.)  Most dams have a nice drop off coming from shore rite up by the dam usually drops to 30-35ft of water depending on the area.  It's important to calculate your position on these drop offs.  Place your boat on the current break in 20-25ft of water and have ingredients your boat getting sacked towards the dam.  During the early hours go a little shallower 12-17ft then when the sun rises high slide off to deeper water 20-25ft range. Thanks once the sun starts it's decent move back shallower 12-17ft.  Dams can be extremely successful for all species.
