I skinned out a pintail skull last night and fed the bugs.  Here is a starting pic and one after 8 hours.  I will take a new picture every 24 hours until they are done. Thanks for looking

Do you have to keep putting something in with the beetles so they have something to eat?

Yes.  I'm trying to grow the colony so I will keep feeding them a lot.

Thanks for showing us that.  I was just thinking about you the other day wondering how that project was going.  So did it take a  month to completely eat up those duck heads?  How many beetles do you think you have?

It took about 5 days for each head.  I just bleached them with peroxide from walmart.  I think the colony is over 5000 now.  I put an old deer skull that I forgot I had in the freezer.  Very freezer burned.  They didn't really go crazy on it.  Dryer out.  So I put a 6 inch section of deer spine and they are cleaning it fast. Should be done in a week or less.  Here are a few pictures.

So, what does one do with a duck skull?  Put it on a plaque?  Nail it to the barn door?

I did whiten them a little with peroxide. I am afraid that if I try to go whiter they will become to brittle and fall apart.
