Northeastern Minnesota firearms deer harvest up nearly 25 percent.

 :happy1: ......
The firearms :deer: harvest in Minnesota’s Series 100 permit areas (Northeastern Minnesota) was up 24.9 percent over last year through Tuesday, according to preliminary figures from Tom Rusch, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources area wildlife manager at Tower. Minnesota’s 16-day :fudd:  deer season closes today.

Buck registration was up 18.4 percent, Rusch said.

In the Tower DNR wildlife management area, which includes nine deer permit areas, total deer registration was up 43 percent compared to 2015 through Tuesday, Rusch said.

“Eight out of nine permit areas showed registration increases ranging from 25 to 59 percent,” he said. “One permit area, which includes part of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, showed a decline of 51 percent.”

The buck harvest, which is the best indicator of deer population change, was up 23 percent in the Tower permit areas, Rusch said.

“Three factors are driving increased hunter success: a growing deer population, antlerless deer permit availability and October-like weather conducive to stand-hunting success,”
Rusch said.

Even though we didn't get anything, I could see in that whole range that the numbers could go up.  Glad for the hunters that harvested some and had a great experience in the outdoors.  I enjoy every second of it.  good luck.
