  • "Seems like time is here and gone".....Doobie's
Saw this tidbit in the local paper today....

1942 – 75 years ago today:

• Butter, fresh pork, and a wide variety of fruits again have been placed on the food stamp list for February. The list is as follows: Butter, fresh pork, fresh grapefruit, apples, pears, oranges, corn meal, shell eggs, hominy grits, and enriched wheat flour.

• In preparation for national defense every boy and girl over 14 should know how to operate and care for an automobile. All women should study first aid and all children should be trained how to evacuate buildings.

Boy, times sure have changed....Do young people even know what's under the hood anymore? Do they still have "Power Mechanics"classes? I remember that one was always full when I went to school, but I took it every year thru junior high, and in high school. Also opted for "Metalworking 1 and 2" classes instead of "Basic woodworking". Who didn't hang out at the local drive-in, showing off yer car and talking engines and power...and girls.  I can't begin to imagine the tons of money I've saved over the years doing all of my own mechanic work. Up until I bought Mr. Sparkles, I NEVER had had a vehicle in anywhere for an oil change ! Or a tune-up, or anything other than tires and shocks. Oh, and a radiator in the Ranger. Too messy!  Letting someone else change my oil and filter still bugs me...and I stand right there while they do it. (Ford dealership) Helps when ya know all the guys there too. THanks god for the weekly car shows here!! I get a kick when I see these young guys staring google-eyed at some of the rods and engines...and think there still may be hope... ;)

With sensors and computers and all that stuff, way too complicated for me anymore.  And I gave up changing oil when I added up the cost of buying the oil and filter and it was within a couple bucks of quicklane with a coupon.

Had a surprising experience yday afternoon...was tired of the slow (2-3 lbs week) air leak in my RF tire on Mr. Sparkles. With only 18,000 miles, always sitting in a heated garage, figgered it wasn't a bead leak due to corrosion, and doubtful I ran over anything with that small a leak... I was shooting for bad a valve stem. Decided to head over to Discount Tire after giving them a call to see if they could squeeze me in. They'd fixed a tire or two before on my Ford Stranger.
Got the truck in 10 mns after I was there. Guy spent some good time checking the tire, and lo and behold, called me out to see....a tiny little pinhole between the treads. He said he pulled what looked like half of a tiny metal staple out...the type in a staple gun. Anywho, they fixed it, and 45 mns after I rolled in, I rolled out. Best thing...NO CHARGE!!! "No, we don't charge for that...you've been here before". That really made my day. Might haveta drop a dozen donuts off for the guys sometime. I can heartily recommend Discount Tire; heard the same from all my buddies about them.  :happy1:

HHmmm.  Better do some snooping around and see if the NL has a stapler.  She may be irritated that you didn't invite her over one night..

I am glad you brought that up about TRF Boar.  I work with a guy who coaches kids hockey and asked him what was going on.  Heard something on the news this morning too on the radio.  He said hazing and a lot of worse things have been going on there for some time.  He even thought 3 people have been fired for covering up.  MAN that is terrible that a kid has to worry about bully crap like that.  Isn't someone there to protect these kids????  I would be furious if my kid was involved or a victim.  Maybe this should be a new thread....
