If you want to target big pike try hanging a fundog hot dog on a quick strike rig.  When I was told to try it I thought, "No Fricken way".  I tried it this weekend and was shocked. Started out with only 1 dog down out of 6 tipups and within an hour we had 5 hotdogs xown.  We couldn't catch a pike on a sucker, only bass.  Also they are less than 1.50 for 8 where as suckers are 8 dollars per dozen.  If you get hungry don't eat them, they taste terrible.

My fish wasn't even the largest.  A friend had a 42 incher and one of the kids caught a 36 and a 39.  Incredible weekend.

When I have a 2 treble hook quick strike rig I do.  With just a single treatment le hook I use 3/4 of it and hook it with 2 of the hooks in the middle of the dog.

So....are these legal to fish with under a tip-up in Minnesota? That's the only way I have seen these "hot dog" rigs used.....But, I thought they were not legal.....

I'm assuming that because they have the spinner blades, that would make them a "Lure"  :happy1:

I think that law about the spinners and lures changed a few years ago.

you dont have to have a blade, but a bead will work too, just as long as the bead or blade is within of 3 inches.of the treble or hook. i make my own for pike. unless things have changed this is what i understand. a simple bead with in 3 inches is now considerd a lure.
