Ok boys, thanks to the inspiration of my Union Brother and MNO Brother Glenn I finally made some sauerkraut.  I have been going to do it for a long time and finally made it.  I did two cabbages.  I picked out fairly big ones.  hubba_hubba-404.gif  You can guess why....   :rotflmao:  Cuz I like big ones...   :rotflmao:  Well a 3 lb cabbage can be jammed into 2 qt wide mouth jars.  I made two with caraway seeds and two plain ones.  I can't wait to try them.   The tool you see in the picture is made by the guys who do the plastic injection molding for me.  It is actually to make holes to put seeds in the garden.  It worked awesome for packing the jars.  I will keep it in my kitchen gadget drawer.  I think they are about $3.  I will keep you abreast on the kraut development..

Ok I will get a dozen of the "gadgets" and will send them to you guys in a plain brown wrapper.  You pay postage and the cost of the "plug".    Dealers welcome.  Rebs you could have the whole Cawchester area...   Big bucks..

Glad I don't have a sick mind like Del  sleazy-422.gif, but I thought it was a tool to inject suppositories.  You would think this Kraut would have made his own Kraut by this time, but I haven't in a long time.  My mom made it a lot in the basement.  I'm used to using Franks in the plastic bag [refrigerated].  Which I really like.  It has a coursed texture than others.  But you can't beat home made.  Congrats to your first batch LPS!!  good luck.

Hey RH or Glenn...isn't there some kraut that has caraway seeds in it? Or some kinda little seeds, that look like dill seeds?

Ya, caraway seeds in some batches.  LPS made two jars with them and two without.  good luck.

Some differnt flavor, I'd guess. Ever had caraway bread? Different, but good.

Next time I'm guessing LPS will try Anise seed instead of caraway with the butt tool and really have a recipe to bring to RH's nudist club party.

That home made stuff is great.  Seems so much "fresher" even though it actually is kind of a rotten cabbage thing.  Also its easy to make and for those that don't have a seed poker I bet some of you have one of those Butt Out Plugs some guys use for gutting deer and could use that to stuff the cabbage in the jars.

We have had people asking if the kraut stinks.  We have it in the spare bedroom with the door closed so it stays cooler.  The day I made this we had our corned beef and cabbage for supper.  The next morning the wife kept saying man I can really smell that kraut.  I said I can't smell it.  Then I ripped another one from eating all of the cabbage the night before and she said I can really smell it now can't you????   When I started laughing she caught on....
