Conservation Officer Report: Ice is out, pheasant season closed. :doah:

Officer Joyce Kuske (Little Falls) investigated a garbage dumping complaint that resulted in the owners of the garbage being located and the area being cleaned up. A call of pheasants being shot out of season was handled where two guys have been seen shooting pheasants on the roadway out of season. :bonk: Officer Kuske responded to a shots fired call one night of deer being shot at from a vehicle.

Conservation officer Karl Hadrits (Crosby) reports activity this week of monitoring ice-out and fish run conditions, investigating issues of people dumping garbage in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, nuisance beaver and incidental otter, and working with the Cuyuna Range Whitetails Chapter of the MN Deer Hunter's Association on their annual fundraiser event by presenting the DNR's Laser shot system to promote youth interest in shooting/hunting sports.

Officer Randy Posner (Brainerd) reports there have been a few anglers out trying their luck at the local dams and a few on the ice. The catching is poor. Garbage dumping on public land  :banghead:complaints were investigated. Vehicles on closed roads in the Pillsbury Forest has received some enforcement time. The vehicle operators' were removing barricades and driving on the closed forest roads. He also worked on complaints of people snagging fish. The anglers were found and the rules were explained.

Officer Bob Mlynar (Aitkin) worked ice angling activity, including a TIP call. A career presentation was given to Aitkin ninth graders along with Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries personnel. Response was also given to a deer through the ice call. A rescuer used common sense and the deer seems to have survived the plunge. :happy1:

Officer Sam Hunter (Park Rapids) assisted the Akeley Fire Department in rescuing a cow that had fallen through a pond. Officer Hunter was called to a brush fire that got away from the landowner. Fire danger is very high right now, please use caution when having a campfire and follow burning permit guidelines. :campfire:

Officer Amber Ladd (McGregor) had a wolf depredation case this week and worked a TIP complaint of over limit/double tripping.

Officer Patrick McGowan (Pine River) monitored late season ice angling activity. Anglers are finding unsafe ice and most ice fishing is over for the season. Enforcement action was taken for over limit of sunfish and ATV violations. Officer McGowan also assisted local agencies with calls for service.

Officer Jim Guida (Brainerd) worked off-highway vehicle enforcement this week. Vehicles traveling around signs that indicate closed forestry roads/trails are subject to enforcement action.

Officer Guida allowed a college student the opportunity to participate in a job shadow. Crappie over limit complaints were investigated. Enforcement action was taken on ATVs operating illegally on the shoulder of county roads and operating without lights. :doah:
Officer Rhonda Friese (Long Prairie) checked angling, hunting, OHV, and burning activities.

Burning restrictions are in effect. Most lakes are ice free.
