I think two lines would be fine for most people. Me  personally, I have trouble enough with one.

Here in Pennsylvania we are aloud to use three rods at a time with unlimited number of hooks per line. I personally think that using three rods is too much in fact I can't even tell you the last time I've used two rods at a time. I do 99% jig fishing in the rivers near the dams so it's impossible to use more than one. It's kind of irritating when you shore fish and there are two or three guys spread out each using three rods, they can take up a good 100 yards of shoreline just between the three of them. They usually have 2 rods with live bait and one casting. If they would read the rules all rods must be under immediate control at all times by the person using them, how can u do that. I've seen lots of fish under the minimum size limit killed by swallowing the hook because the guys were messing with the other rods and they let the fish eat the bait instead of hooking it properly and they want their $0.05 hook back so they rip it out of their gullet and kill the fish. So even if you were aloud to use more than one rod there is still a downside of it from the irresponsible people out there. So in my own opinion more than one rod isn't all it's cracked up to be, besides most of us go fishing for the sport and relaxation and not to support our families with food, so the longer it takes you to catch your limit or go through a couple dozen of minnows even if you are throwing them back using one rod only prolongs the enjoyment of the sport of fishing for the afternoon
