The Twins were "sellers" at the trading deadline because the team was slumping and expectations to make a playoff run were low.  They traded recently-acquired starter Jamie Garcia and closer Brandon Kintzler for prospects to be better down the road.  Dozier didn't like the message this sent to this year's team, and the team responded by playing better, to the point where we are relevant again - for the 2nd wildcard spot.

This makes it fun, but I still don't have expectations for them to make a long playoff run.  It seems to be Cleveland's year.

But I do like the way the team is heading.  I believe that Jim Pohlad will spend the cash when Thad Levine and Rob Antony decide its time to pull the trigger for top-line pitching.  I know its a cliche of sports talk right now, but I hope that Sano's weight doesn't become an obstacle to him achieving his full potential.  With the improved offense, this team is shaping up into one that is easy to like and fun to root for.

I'm all-in on the "Big Sexy" Train, but in 1987 they had Viola, Blyleven, Anderson (the 1987 ERA leader as I recall), and Reardon.

Still, I'm optimistic for this plucky group of lads.

Been watching the Twins all summer long, the two walk off wins show they are going to play till the end. when they got swept by Cleveland everyone said they were done. So what did they do? a week later they swept Cleveland. I do think Cleveland is the best team in baseball and to bad Minnie is in the same division, but the Twins will make a mark in the post season. How bout Mauer's year? not bad for a so called over paid washed up player.

I'm excited for the Twins and where they are heading, and technically the two wild card teams play in the playoffs.  But a single game feels more like a play-in than the playoffs.

Anything can happen in a single game, but the Yanks took the opportunity to serve notice to the Twins a week or so ago.

Woo Hoo, the Twins are in the playoffs!

My hat is off to Brian Dozier.  He wasn't happy about the moves made at the trading deadline and voiced his disagreement.  But to his credit he didn't keep chirping.  Instead he went to work and put up better numbers that lifted the team.

We don't know what goes on in the clubhouse, but its the combination of vocal leadership and on-field production that inspires teammates.  I'd like to think Brian is that guy following in the footsteps of Torii and Kirby.

There have been several players this year who have held this Twins team together. Dozer, Mauer and don't forget the arrival of Big Sexy took some pressure of a yet again questionable pitching staff. From the fire sale at the fourth of July that did not happen this group of guys put together an interesting an entertaining season. If it should end next week I sure had fun watching. :happy1:
