Van Dyne - Dennis "Buzz" Heenan was all smiles as he stood in the ice and snow outside at the sturgeon registration station here Saturday.

He had reason to be.

After 10 years of unsuccessful sturgeon spearing attempts, Heenan speared his first sturgeon Saturday, the opening day of the Lake Winnebago system sturgeon spearing season.

And Heenan's fish, displayed on a truck tailgate, was a real dandy.

"Seventy-two inches long and 135 pounds," said Heenan, of Appleton, his smile getting even broader.

Dang it! Thats it, next yr I'm going to go. I have been doing a little homework during my lay-off. I don't know lots about it but I think I got enough to make a bumbling go of it.
