So, when it comes time to fill your auger with fuel...
Do you mix your own, or do you buy the pre-mixed gas?

Mix yer own with non-oxy!!! You have no idea how good the oil/fuel they put in that stuff is, even if it is synthetic...!! And compared to a gallon of yer own mix, ten times the price! That's IMO. Plus, you can go a tad in either direction as far as the mix, oil, etc, depending on what you plan to do under what conditions....and no, you can't substitute yer boat oil for the mix, as there is a big difference between 2 stroke oil for water or air cooled engines. And no, high octane is NOT better! You actually get less BTU's of energy out of a higher octane than say an 89, which is perfect for today's augers, as long as it's NON-OXY, and you add a molecular water dissipating/breakdown stabilizer like Startron.
There! OK, I'll get offa my soapbox...couldn't help it, used to answers these questions over and over and over in my old ice auger column.   ;)

A Buddy of mine who puts his fish near me every year (great guy) always has problems with his snow mobiles at the beginning of every season.  I finally said with authority a couple of weeks ago "you are using non oxy premo aren't you"?  He is so tight and said well no.  I said that is why you have so many problems.  Don't you know that????  He just looked at me.....  Great buddy but man how long does it take to learn that for a few pennies you don't have to clean out your carbs and all of that other crap......  A little Seafoam doesn't hurt neither.  I never have a problem..  Knock on wood.

Non oxy fuel, tron fuel additive and a decent oil mix... that's all you need for any two cycle mix.
I have an old chain saw in the garage that I bet the fuel is near 8 years old, started and ran fine this fall... I'm a believer.

We mix our own non oxy too. We also buy Sea Foam by the gallon when the local farm store has their bag sale(18% off). Use it in just about everything, especially up at the lake.
