                                           Toro Snowblower problem!

Relatively new only 2nd year of use. Everything was workin fine an den...... :banghead:

Da pull start won't start da engine :bonk:  I have compression and it pulls just fine but engine won't even cough or spit. Just seems like maybe no spark!  Now da kicker is when I plug in da extension cord and push da button she fires up right away. I'm hoping dat da electric start don't go out next  :snow2::doah: Da snow forecast is for up ta 10 inches starting tonight and lasting till........

 :snow2:

PS. I did buy it brand new. :embarrassed:

Hmmm..... Are you SURE the recoil dogs are ENGAGING the flywheel housing? If it fires with electric start, but not recoil, only difference is speed of cranking RPM's. You MAY have weak spark...bad plug (seen it a lot...check it out against head (Cylinder head, Lee) for a fat blue spark. Only other thing could be a weak coil....seen that a lot on ice augers.  And it runs fine from idle to WOT?

Maybe those scrawny arms just don't have the oomph anymore.... :whistling:  :rotflmao:

Sounds ta me if the trusty electricity start goes out you'll be hooking it to da car and have borgie drag it  while you dump da clutch with it in gear ( key on of course).. :happy1:

10" of snow tonight? Where the heck do you live?

I don't think it is very uncommon that you would have a hard time starting a snowblower by hand in cold weather. That's why they put electric starters on them in the first place. I wouldn't even know if mine would start without the electric start when it is cold but I'm betting it would take me a while so I don't even try. Mine starts in 1 pull though when the engine is warm. I bet yours might too.

Beans. That's what they're made for. My 16 yo blower starts on the 1st or second pull like it should.

Lee look at the flywheel,The rust from snow melting and humidity can and will rust the magnet that makes spark with a magnito.Pull startin just wont produce a strong spark, but the elec.start will spin it fast enough to make spark. If its rusty just sand it off wit fine sandpapper or emery

I’ve had an Ariens, and a Toro that would never start with the pull cord if it was very cold, but would start with the cord very east once warm. The Toro I would have to bring in the garage, and warm it up before it would start with the cord, it did not have electric start until I got so frustrated that I bought electric start and installed. The Ariens came with electric start but still you can pull until you’re blue in the face and it won’t start. Plug it in and it starts right away. I don’t know if the larger horsepower machines make a difference or weather it’s way up north where it’s colder? My Toro was a 5 hp and was used in Maple grove. My Ariens was an 11 hp and is used up in Park Rapids.
My 2 cents

Do you store it in the cold or is it in an attached or heated garage?

Don't worry about my stuff. My stuff always starts. Not the issue here. Both are outside. And I've been a small engine mechanic since 1973. Outside engines start outside. Your snowmobiles aren't brought in the house, are they?

I should have mentioned dis before but.... :banghead: When it's runnin I shut it off an den try da pull start immediately while it's still warm and she still won't start. Therefore it ain't cuz da engine is cold.

How bout this Lee. Looking over all the problems  ( not only yours) with newer blowers, find yourself a set of train tracks , put the blower right in the middle tgen go buy yourself an older model like mine tgat starts on the first pull...20 years and still throwing snow!!

After Tecumseh went belly up most new snowblower engines are Chinese.

Well ya!!!! Ya think they have 500' cords with starters in Alaska to their OUTDOOR pump and log splitter engines?!  :doofus:

Unless the fuel is fulla ice crystals, and there's air, and spark, it will start!  Compressed gas vapors ignited by spark in closed combustion chamber make piston go up and down!!!
