Zero turn Mowers
I am thinking of getting a  Zero Turn Mower.  I now have a appx. 6 year old JD LA175.  54" deck 26 hp motor B&S.  Runs great, uses no oil.  A little over 300 hrs on it.  The steering gear is slipping which is common on them after a few years on these.  The parts are under $100 and fairly easy to install.  The dealer here said they would only give me $600 for it as is.  I know I should just order parts and fix it but am feeling lazy.  If anyone is interested let me know.  Also does anyone have a Zero Turn.  I am looking at the JD one since they are here in town.  I do have a hill in our yard that my mower gets up without spinning out as long as the grass isnt wet.  Wondering how the Zero would handle that.  I have heard they are comfortable to ride and save a lot of time due to the turning issue.

They are super nice and stable, but on some hills......ask Dotch about that; he's got a Himalayan hill that he does, not sure if his is a zero turn. I'd like one, four swipes and I'd be done.  :laugh:

Power equipment shop in my town sells the toro and husqvarna zero turns,repair shop has rows of zero turns in for repairs,maybe JD will hole up better,. Seems pullies/belts are the issue.

Ya, I just have a couple tractor-type mowers. Have a lot of trees so tried dealing locally on a zero turn last year. In the meantime discovered they'd been dinks on other business w/me so I walked away. Want me to do business locally with them but when the shoe's on the other foot, not so much. If I find a decent deal somewhere else someday, I might bite. Zero turns would be great on the flat & gentler slopes. On steep inclines like our road cut, probably not a great idea. 4 wheel steer? Maybe.    :confused:

Used a ZT mower when I was in the lawn care business, ours was a Toro 25 hp BS with a commercial deck. Liked it as it was a time saver but if the grass was very wet you had to loop your turns a little or the inside rear tire didn't roll on the turns & it would tear up the customers yard. Had 1 job with a steep hill along the yard side of the ditch that if it was wet, it would slide some, not real bad but a little scary. Look to see how well the deck is made before anything else, that's usually what causes issues.

Ok UPDATE:  I went to the JD Dealer and said if you give me $800 for my old mower that I think is 6 years old I will buy the Z375R Zero Turn mower.  He did $750 and then looked up mine and it is 10 years old.   :rotflmao: :rotflmao:  Man time flies when you are having fun.  So I have the new one in the yard.  There is a learning curve to doing a straight line with them...   

Paid $2700 new for the old one.  So $1950 for 10 years of use.  $195 per year.

Thought I would just give it a try and I mowed most of the lawn and in yup, half the time.  No more 3 point turns trying to get around a tree or to change directions.  Great purchase..

I also got me an EGO battery operated weed whip.  I am going to take better care of my yard in my retirement.  Rebs makes me feel a little guilty when I see the long grass along side my deck etc.   :rotflmao: :happy1:  It was on sale at Home Depot.  Normally $199 on sale this weekend for $149.  Can put the battery in other things too like a push lawn mower, a blower, and hedge trimmer, etc.  My old weed whip I bought in 1999 and irritates me every year when it keeps on running.  lol  I have wanted a new one for years.  Tired of gas leaking on me.

We've gotta a Ryobi battery operated trimmer as we have a couple sets of their cordless tools too. Like it much better than any gas powered weed whip I've ever used too. Way to go LPS, now you can compete with Reb on who has the nicest lookin yard ;) ;D
