Minnesota Conservation Officer Jimmy Van Asch had an unusual call June 10 with reports of a moose trapped in a baseball field in tiny Swatara in northern Aitkin County.

Sure enough, when Van Asch arrived, the young moose appeared unable to get out of the fenced-in field.

“It looked like he squeezed through between the fence and the dugout, then couldn't remember how he got in,’’ Van Asch told the News Tribune.

Van Asch opened a large gate in the outfield and shooed-away gawking onlookers watching  from their vehicles. The moose eventually left the field when the cars went away.


While most Minnesota moose are found in Cook, Lake and far northern St. Louis counties, Van Asch said there is a stable, remnant population of moose in the swamps of northern Aitkin County.

They mention that heard what many dont konw is up where I used to live East of Mooselake near Nemadji state forest, In Nemadji there are moose also wolves back when they were almost gone! Its a big forest and for many years wasnt used. Now days its a zoo and I quit going there cept blueberry picking in July.
