:reporter; Fuel oil spilled in Voyageurs National Park lake :doah:

 Jun 23, 2018

 :reporter; ...
Voyageurs National Park Service responded Friday afternoon to a fuel oil spill on Kabetogama Lake in St. Louis County near the international border.

 :coffee: ....
The park was notified at 12:49 p.m. that there had been a 15- to 20-gallon fuel oil spill on the north side of Peterson Bay at a private residence during a delivery of fuel by contractors. According to a news release, at 1:28 p.m., 130 feet of fuel containment booms and 200 fuel spill absorbent pads were deployed around the spill area. Because of the fuel being diluted and dispersed after the spill, containment efforts were not fully successful, and fuel oil spread out beyond the boom.

  ...
According to park services, at 9:04 p.m., a report was taken about fuel along the beach on the south side of Peterson Bay. Rangers responded and found that there was an oily sheen along the southern shoreline.

The U.S. Coast Guard Response Center, Environmental Protection Agency, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Kabetogama Fire Department and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency were all notified of the spill. :pouty:

MPCA has advised Voyageurs National Park that evaporation is the best option at this time, as there is no way to siphon or soak up the diluted fuel off the water surface, :tut: the news release said. The park is monitoring the fuel’s movement, and the boom will stay in place until Monday morning to allow for evaporation to occur. The incident remains under investigation.

saw dust, dummassess, saw dust.
Too late when it has spread out into a layer only a few molecules thick.  And small compared to the oil and unburned gas from the two strokes.

Not good, also have concerns about trump opening up the bwca for mineral mining, bad deal in my book, this and the tundra region in alaska for oil, another not so good idea as I've seen 1st hand the damage done from Nome north from oil spills and broken welds puking oil for days before the leak is located and the harm done to the native wildlife in the region.
