Here is something about Hy Vee that most people don't know about.  The only choice beef they have is in the service case period.  All of the rest in their regular meat case is Select. Same stuff that Walmart got.  They give it a fancy name but it's crap.  In general they have a nice store with some things other grocery stores don't have like making things on the spot to eat and the service is good.  But as far as the beef, Forget it.  Ya i see their ads and you have to be careful what you are buying as far as beef.  Cub last weekend had a three day sale on Farmland bacon for 2.99 ea. for 16 oz.  good luck.

At last! Someone knowledgeable agrees with me! Thank you, RH!  I been tellin' people their meat is overpriced crap for years! I worked in a butcher shop for a few years, remenber. I know good and bad meat when I  see it.  RH, I snuck over to Cub and grabbed some bacon there, too...ssshhhhh.    :whistling:    Farmland thick sliced is my favorite!  Ten pkgs should tide me over.  :rotflmao:

A recently retired friend of mine who worked in the wholesale meat industry for many years always said Farmland bacon is one of the most undervalued products for the quality there is. Your tastebuds don't deceive you Reb.  :happy1:

Yep. I had noticed that about the packaged beef at sly-vee.  I have a hard time getting mama to realize how bad she gets ripped off at the meat counter by that stuff they sell by the piece.

And with Fareway gone, our options down here aren't good.....Silver lake foods, and Cub, or drive down to Stewartville.  I'll take Silver Lake over anyone for pork...they got every kinda cut of piggers, and they do the pigger steaks right, where fareway cut them different, didn't care for their way. Didn't look like the proverbial "pigger blade steak".

Go see my bud Rob, Delmar!

x2. Morgan's got it goin' on! Some of the local butcher shops where I grew up struggled to make decent bacon. Not Dean. It's top shelf. He's also the best lamb processor I've ever had. In over 50 years of taking lambs to locker plants I've seen a few. Very fortunate to have him and his family here. Super people.  :happy1:

Tomatoes in our garden are coming Art but looks like September will be their month. Look nice just not as far along as I'd like.  :embarrassed:

Gee, this is no surprise to me......heck, I'd like more land too...can I put in a request?

TRIBE’S REQUEST GRANTED

After a month’s delay, the Rochester  City Council offered unanimous support for granting a request from the Prairie Island Indian Community.

The approval came without comment, a week after Tribal President Shelley Buck attended a City Council meeting to discuss the request to support efforts to convert 1,200 acres of Elk Run area into tribal land.

Putting the land into a federal trust will extend the tribe’s reservation land and create additional housing for its membership.

Current reservation land is limited. A little more than 200 of the tribe’s 1,030 enrolled members live on the reservation along the Mississippi River near Red Wing, according to Buck. More land is needed.

The Prairie Island Indian Community is in the process of drafting a congressional request for placing the land in trust.

They bought the land for actual money. They now own it.  You want land, show them the Benjamins...

Not sure why Rochester is so down with getting the land off the tax rolls but it signals their virtue..

Good ol' Sly Vee......................

Hy-Vee Warns of Security Problem with Credit Card Readers

August 15, 2019 09:00 AM

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa-based grocery store chain is warning customers about what it says is a security issue involving payment card systems.

Hy-Vee said in a news release Wednesday that it launched an investigation after it detected unauthorized activity on some of its payment processing systems - activity that the company thinks has stopped.

The investigation focused on card payments at Hy-Vee restaurants, fuel pumps and drive-thru coffee shops.  Company officials think the problem doesn't involve payments systems used inside its grocery stores, drugstores and convenience stores. They use encryption technology for processing card transactions.

Hy-Vee intends to notify customers when it can share specific timeframes and locations that may have been involved in security breaches.

The company is based in West Des Moines and operates more than 240 retail stores in eight Midwestern states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
