One thing about being out here is the news is more fun...

https://ktla.com/2020/02/14/video-o-c-man-tries-to-fight-off-k-9-with-umbrella-after-pursuit-ends-in-dramatic-standoff-in-san-diego/
Dramatic video captured an Orange County man trying to fend off a K-9 with an umbrella following a series of alleged crimes that culminated in his arrest after a high-speed pursuit this week, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

On Monday night, California Highway Patrol officers were investigating a hit-and-run crash on the southbound 5 Freeway just south of the La Costa exit in northern San Diego County when they discovered the vehicle involved had been stolen out of La Habra, according to a sheriff's news release.

The alleged hit-and-run driver had already fled the scene on foot.

A short time later, two San Diego County deputies who were still in the area searching for the driver spotted a Chrysler minivan speeding with its headlights off on the southbound 5, according to the release. They began following the vehicle.

Around the same time, sheriff's dispatch received a 911 call from someone reported a stolen minivan. The caller said an unknown man had entered the victim's home, threatened the resident, demanded the car keys and then took the vehicle.

Investigators linked the minivan to the one deputies were following on the freeway, authorities said.

CHP officers then became involved again and initiated a pursuit of the stolen vehicle, which was still headed south on the 5 Freeway at that point.

The chase then went on the southbound 805 Freeway and northbound 15 Freeway, where the minivan abruptly stopped in the middle of the lanes near the El Cajon Boulevard exit in San Diego.

The driver, identified by the Sheriff's Department as 42-year-old Daniel Medina, allegedly threatened law enforcement personnel at the scene, according to the release.

At that point, deputies shot out the driver's-side window and released a K-9, according to San Diego television station KGTV.

Video from the scene showed the police dog jumping through the broken glass window as the driver tried to escape. The man used an umbrella to try and fight off the K-9, repeatedly striking the dog, according to the footage.

But the K-9 refused to let go, remaining locked on the suspect's arm as the man walked across freeway lanes to awaiting officers, the video showed.

Sports Performance facility owned by Vikings teammates Sherels, Thielen to open Sunday in Rochester

It started off as Minnesota Vikings locker room talk, but now it's official.

ETS Performance, a sports performance facility, will open in Rochester on Sunday.

The club is owned by former Minnesota Vikings teammates Marcus Sherels and Adam Thielen, along with founder Ryan Englebert.

"We're really excited," Sherels said. "It's something that Adam and I have been talking about for awhile, in the locker room, kind of jokingly. But to bring something like this to Rochester, we think it's going to be a really good thing."

The 32-year-old Sherels is a John Marshall grad who went on to play football at the University of Minnesota before having a standout career with the Vikings from 2010-19. Sherels holds nearly all of the Vikings' career punt return records.

Sherels and Thielen were teammates for six seasons with the Vikings, from 2014-19.

Sherels will be on hand when ETS Performance — located at 5931 Bandel Road NW — has its grand opening at 7 p.m. Sunday. Thielen, a current wide receiver for the Vikings, will be unable to attend, but he will make an appearance at a later date.

"I will be there and I will be talking a little bit," Sherels said. "We're trying to create a buzz and have a bunch of people sign up and just come out."

The public is welcome to check out the facility during the grand opening. Englebert will also attend and go over the sign-up process.

ETS Performance is not a typical workout facility. It provides a lot of one-on-one training.

"We're open to anyone who wants to come in and try to improve their craft," Sherels said. "And it's no different than an AP (Advanced Placement) class, except it's with sports, and getting better and training. It's just trying to improve and working with people who have the same competitive mindset."

Rochester native Jake Kirsch is the manager of the club. Kirsch played football at John Marshall and at Rochester Community and Technical College. He was also on the University of Minnesota roster for two seasons.

This will be the 10th ETS Performance club and the sixth in Minnesota.

Heard the interview with the Rutgers women's BB coach yesterday and she almost made it sound like she favored her black players over her white players. Rather than continuing to dredge this stuff up, isn't it time for the pity party to end and not worry about their origins?

I haven't been following this story closely.  Is there evidence of cover-ups or the organization as a whole protecting predators or ignoring credible claims?

Same pretty much as the Catholics.  Abuse run rampant and moving leaders around and back in with kids.  I was a Scout and darn proud of it.  I never saw any of this when I was in.  That was back in the 60's.

I don't think they can legally do that. However, in Alabama, it might be a good idea....

Fun with words......or not.  :doah:  Been keeping track of the almost daily goofs
on a certain local news station, only reason I read it is for the entertainment. Today, from a story about a new kitchen area:

"We have our own section for keeping all the drinks and what not and we're also getting in like a Chester freezer and we have a sink back there so if people need to use it they certainly can."

"gettin in LIKE "...ya, great english. Like ya, like.....like....valley girl?

WTH is a "Chester"freezer? Something from Gunsmoke that freezes Chester?

Yesterday, they were talking about the upcoming "Flee" market...guess ya haveta run from it...🏃‍♂️

The other weekm they were talking about the river being high and washing out some of the "Rif Raff".....do they mean the city council? It's RIP RAP, dopey!

I don't know where this town got the people doing the news, but one look at 'em says it all. Millenial magic.  :doofus:

Say tuned for more fun & foolishness!  :rotflmao:

Aha! Their favorite word again today!!     :bonk:

Just as quick as the cold air came into the area, it will go away on Friday. In fact, we are looking at a 50° uptick in temperatures from Thursday morning's teens below-zero, to Friday afternoon's highs in the middle 30s!
