Must be short on news stories.....this is nothing new. Saw plenty of it where I worked. Ya groused about the conditions and yer boss....next thing you were outside looking in.
Nothing gives you immunity from that. It's called insubordination.

Ya....I hate to tell ya, but it happens all the time. If you don't follow employers proper complaint channels, and are work disruptive, it's their right to dismiss you. Usually occurs after a couple meetings and written warnings. Keep it up, and away ya go.

Yup. Mayo was really good for that....still is. My buddies wife just got terminated from there in December for the exact same thing.....she complained about their pushing them too hard, and *POOF*. That was that. Ask my my fishing buddy who's a dept head there...he's dumped a few. I can attest to one in particular, when I was there,  about a guy that was always complaining about work....

well then...…..I hate to tell you what they are doing is illegal... and you don't need to be a union member to push it.

we have spent 5 plus years fighting this same stuff in grand rapids...…….and finally looks like the company is going to need the checkbook out to close to the tune of about a million bucks...……...and they've had to rehire those they fired back!!!!

these employees need to find an avenue to pursue it.

Not according to them it ain't. You can't be disruptive at work and raise hell, not following policy, and not expect to be fired. What other basis would there be?!

Just telling you what I saw and happened. I'm not telling you about labor law or yer union stuff or your job. (Or how to do it)  But if someone continually screws up at work, doesn't follow policy, is disruptive toward other employees, isn't happy there you keep them?!  Then they don't belong there. They're a liability. Everyone suffers. Get rid of 'em.

I don't mean to be stirring the pot, but isn't At-will employment in play for many folks.

"At-will employment is a term used in U.S. labor law for contractual relationships in which an employee can be dismissed by an employer for any reason (that is, without having to establish "just cause" for termination), and without warning,[1] as long as the reason is not illegal (e.g. firing because of the employee's race or religion). When an employee is acknowledged as being hired "at will," courts deny the employee any claim for loss resulting from the dismissal. The rule is justified by its proponents on the basis that an employee may be similarly entitled to leave his or her job without reason or warning. The practice is seen as unjust by those who view the employment relationship as characterized by inequality of bargaining power."

It is. Some states aren't, Minnesota is. From the Minnesota judicial legal employment:

Minnesota is an employment "at will" state. An employee can quit for any reason; an employer can fire any employee for any reason as long as that reason is not illegal, such as discrimination based on race, creed, color, sex, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation or marital status

Yup. Been on all sides of this issue: as an employee, an employer and a consumer. Employees who are perpetual malcontents are poison. From an employers perspective, they underachieve, they infect other workers with their negative attitudes and they do nothing positive for the public image of the company. As an employee they make going to work a drag. Hearing nothing but negative all day every day wears on a person enough so it makes one want to look for another job just to get away from the Negative Nelly. My attitude has always been I was looking for a job when I found this one. Go someplace else. And as a consumer, it turns my stomach to be waited on by individuals like that. Makes me less likely to go in the place for fear I'll have to deal with the dink or another one like them. Fortunately those people tend to weed themselves out after a while. From the employers perspective again, you can try and try to help them but it's like feeding a runt bottle lamb with little will to live. Eventually the light bulb has to come on or you're better off cutting your losses and getting rid of them.

:banghead: :banghead: :taz:  YOU guys are off on 3 different paths.
at will employment
violating work rules and disiplianry procedures, and,
how this was originally started......an employees federally given right to openly discuss wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment, and YES it is an employees right to openly discuss there working conditions, which falls under the terms and conditions.

but have at it i'm done beating my head against a wall...….. i'm outta this one. :doah:

That actually sums it up on all our new hires lately.  Piss and moan daily,  show up late, call in once a week, I'm working harder than the next guy.. what is it with this generation?
