Just got home.  The Vikes just took a huge DE and a tough looking RB.

 It looks like they ended up with 10 picks, 5 on each side of the ball. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/teams/_/name/min/minnesota-vikings Before the draft I don't think they had more than 7.

We got a B- grade for the draft and they say Detroit came out ahead on our trade with them.

 How do they know how much, if at all, any of these picks will even play already. Some OL & DL players take a couple years or more to develop enough to even get on the field very much. Think I'll wait & see who ends up doing what?

I saw one pundit gave the Vikes a D-...

  • Didn't take one of the premium players available at #12
  • Didn't get enough in return from Detroit to trade down
  • Helped two division rivals move up to get players they wanted.
Of course this will all be forgotten if the Vikes improve and win the division.  Personally, I don't buy the notion that you can't trade with division rivals.  Detroit took Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams.  They say, "What happens if you have to face them twice a year and he burns you?"

I say you can't take a player just to keep him off someone else's team.  That sounds like a sure way to lose.  You have to build your own team.  There is such a thing as a win-win trade.

Lewis Cine sounds like one ornery dude and paired with "Hitman" Harrison in the defensive secondary, if I were Detroit's Jameson Williams, I'd be afraid to face the Vikings twice a year.  :doah:

I hear something else on the radio yesterday as a reminder...

There are more undrafted free agents in the Hall of Fame than 1st round draft picks.

I heard something similar on 1 of the pre-draft shows too. On this show they said that 70% of the players in the NFL right now are 5 Rd picks or later. That sure surprised me.

OK.  So now I want to fact check what I heard.  Turns out to NOT be true by a long shot.  I counted 107 first-rounders in HOF, but there are 17 undrafted players in as well.

Hall of Famers by Draft Round

1946 - Frank Gatski – C, Cleveland Browns (AAFC), Lou Groza – T/K, Cleveland Browns (AAFC), Marion Motley – FB, Cleveland Browns (AAFC), Bill Willis – MG, Cleveland Browns (AAFC)
1948 - Joe Perry – FB, San Francisco 49ers (AAFC), Emlen Tunnell – S, New York Giants
1951 - Jack Butler – CB, Pittsburgh Steelers
1952 - Dick “Night Train” Lane – CB, Los Angeles Rams
1960 - Willie Wood – S, Green Bay Packers
1962 - Mick Tingelhoff – C, Minnesota Vikings
1963 - Willie Brown – CB, Houston Oilers*
1966 - Emmitt Thomas – CB, Kansas City Chiefs
1967 - Larry Little – G, San Diego Chargers
1970 - Jim Langer – C, Cleveland Browns
1984 - Warren Moon – QB, Houston Oilers
1990 - John Randle – DT, Minnesota Vikings
1998 - Kurt Warner – QB, St. Louis Rams

Early round guys are the skill guys who take the beating and don't last. The later rounds are the guys who mostly play on the lines. If you can do your job on the line you can play 12 years or more. Then there are kickers, they last a long time and are mostly picked late.

I wonder if that is still true for linemen in today's bigger-faster-stronger NFL.  Those guys get beat up pretty good on every play.

I know some teams still have stalwart linemen, but the Vikes haven't been in that category for a long time.

Remember big ol Phil Loadholt our center?  He was twice as big as Bradbury.  He could just walk straight ahead and a hole appeared.  LOL

Who says you can't trade with a division rival?

I just saw another unverified "click-bait" meme...

MIN traded with DET in 2015 and ended up with Danielle Hunter from the deal.  DET used the trade to draft Alex Carter, who played one game for the franchise.

They also did business in 2010.  DET got Jahvid Best and Jason Fox.  The Vikings drafted Everson Griffen.

I haven't heard any other details about the wreck.  Apparently someone else also died in the crash.

Tragic.

The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. in the westbound services lanes of Woodall Rogers Freeway at Allen Street, according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

A teammate told WFAA that 25-year-old Gladney was one of two victims in the crash. The second victim was identified as 26-year-old Andrea Mercedes Palacios.

The sheriff's department said the cause of the crash remains under investigation but added that the victims' vehicle was reportedly speeding, clipped a car from behind, lost control and caught fire after crashing.

Seen where a teammate said that he was with his girlfriend & that she was the same person that was part of his legal problems.
