Nothing to worry about Glenn, they'll make it. As long as we don't go to Philly first round I like our chances.

Over GB and Dallas, Philly has to be my least favorite team in the NFL.

 Hurts barely had 100 yds passing (108) & was sacked 4 times as the Eagles struggled to beat Carolina 22-16 yday. The Eagles are next to last in passing offense for the season, ahead of only NE. But they lead the league in running the ball.

I have to agree with y'er pics.  There always is great satisfaction in watching Jerry Jones shoot himself in the foot.  Philly fans are the worst.  Packers fans are insufferable, but Philly fans are criminal.

I used to have great disdain for the Saints, but the characters responsible for head-hunting Favre in 2009 are long gone.
Pete Carroll and his teams were also insufferable, but they all gone too and the Seahawks are just another team in my book.

Any team that Sean Peyton coaches is right there with Philly.  He should have been barred for life!  We like the Fox pregame show.  Funny guys.  We were both insulted that they allowed Peyton to be on stage with them.  They all have more integrity than Peyton.

Yes it does.  I prefer the sort of underdog status.

Ex-Viking and KFAN commentator, Ben Leber, is adamant about the team NOT using the franchise tag on Darnold.  The tag really isn't in the best interest of a player trying to earn a long term deal, and Sam (along with other players and potential free agents) would consider it a breech of trust the Vikings had with Sam to bring him in for a one-year bridge contract.

Further, you could make the argument that a multi-year window of opportunity is opening for the Vikes to go to the Superbowl - which all hinges on whether or not JJ MacCarthy can play at a high enough level.

Even after signing Justin Jefferson to the biggest wide receiver deal ever, they will have the 6th most cap-space to sign free agents next season.  Even though this team is playing at a high level this year, they'll need to continue to replenish players.  And even if Sam wants to give the Vikes a hometown discount to be a part of their future, and be coached by KOC, that signing will take away the flexibility the Vikes need to fill other holes that will arise to keep the window open longer.

Kirk Cousins did ok with the franchise tag. It’s not like he would be playing for $50.

 So, what if neither McCarthy or Jones look like they're ready to be QB1? Maybe, Darnold wouldn't even mind spending another year playing for K'OC? Not to mention keep on throwing to JJ, Addison, & Hockenson for another season. They have 'til March to figure it out.

Kirk got lucky with the franchise tag in that he didn't have a career altering injury while playing under it.  He was never happy about it.  But yes, after he proved his throwing skills (even though he still didn't win any big playoff games in Washington), he was able to convert his time under the franchise tag into the first fully-guaranteed contract in the NFL with the Vikings - who at the time...  a lot of people said they over-paid for him.

And us armchair QBs and GMs can ask the question...  given where Kirk is now, floundering in Atlanta, would he have been better off giving the Vikes a team-friendly deal, throw to JJ and JA, and get coached by KOC?     Even "good guy" Kirk-o-Chains took the big money.... again - and even though he is currently 4th in all time QB earnings (behind Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, and Russell Wilson).  Its never enough.  :coffee:

Do you think Sam thinks he would be better off on another one-year or short term deal with the Vikes, just so he could throw to JJ and JA, and get coached by KOC some more?     Probably not.  The Vikes might like it, but I think Sam wants to get paid - and based on what he has done for the Vikes, he's probably earned that privilege.

As for McCarthy and Jones panning out...  Jones will sign with someone else long term if he can, but maybe he'd be best served by signing a one year bridge deal - similar to Darnold - with a legitimate chance to compete for the starting job in training camp - knowing full well that at some point - the Vikes need to get McCarthy into the game in the starting roll to see if they have a legit franchise QB.  I don't expect Jones to be on the team next year.  I think he will have better options.

So yeah, the Vikes are 'all in' to see if McCarthy can be QB1.   If McCarthy doesn't pan out, they'll have to go back to the drawing board, but until then...  they still need a legit QB2 as well.

If I’m Darnold i go find the best long term deal I can. Bring it back to the Vikings for a opportunity to match. Then I move on.

Footballs a business, a dangerous business at that.

There is always the angle that he may not do as well with another team and their football philosophy and how they play their QB's.  I hope there is a friendly option to keep him another year.  Till I see McCarthy even play I won't have much faith in him.

 From the article in the link.........................Spotrac projects that Darnold will sign a four-year contract worth approximately $34.4 million annually, or roughly $137.5 million over the life of the deal. The franchise tag would tip the scales of a one-year deal for Darnold from the Vikings to over $40 million. That's still a bargain when most of the other top QB's are on multi-year deals @ ~ $55 mil/yr.

So if the Rams lose or tie on TNF.  Or if the Seahawks lose or tie to the Packers on Sun the Vikes are in the playoffs before they even play the Bears on MNF.
