Notice any white, spider-webby looking patches on yer lawn right now? After the heavy snows we've had, which cause it, you have white or gray snow mold. I'm noticing a lot of it right now around here. There is also pink snow mold, you do NOT want that, I've seen that in years past.  Best thing I find to do is rake the area real lightly as soon as noticed, so the grass is "fluffed up" and can dry out. Overseed that area as soon as it warms up in the Spring, after yer Spring raking (you DO Spring rake, right?) and you should be good to go. With the huge amounts of snow we've had, not a lot you can do to prevent it, IMO, except mow it low as late in the season as you can, and make sure leaves and debris are all raked off before that snow hits...

We had a lot of it every Spring when I worked on the golf course. We'd just lightly rake so it'd dry out & pull up some of the dead stuff then put a little topdressing on it. Usually it would come back pretty quick.

I had some out front this week, but like you said, lightly raked it off. Not gonna be an issue. Grass fills in those spots after fertilizing and overseeding anyway.

hey Reb,...……………. did you not say somewhere you already put down some lawn seed??????

I got some areas that need work, crab grass kinda took over, so I killed it last fall and I want to get an early start on getting desireable grass growing in them spots!!!!!

wondering once this snow gets the hell outta here if its to early with the soil temps being a tad cool yet???????

Fall is best time to overseed, but now will work. I did a big skwirrel dig spot on my front lawn about a week ago, gets sun all day. That's enough to warm it up to germinate. Have some already coming up. I just did my boulevard last week with a mix of Milorgnite and my seed mixed in. Recent snow just melted off it today, but will come up as it warms up. Most important thing is soil temps around 60-65*. Only negative this time of year is inconsistent temps and rains, and it will cool soil off. But if it's in a spot that gets sun all day, you should be OK. I'll be doing my back yard week after next. Just use a good seed and don't use too much, will overcrowd and kill the seedlings off. Once it gets established, you can overseed again in a month or so. For me, Schulz seed has been the consistent best. They have 4 or 5 varieties. One should work for ya.
Remember to check the test date on pkg list of types of cultivars in it. All are required to have a test date that the seed was tested. Most are usually Jan/Feb 2019 right now. Anything older, and the store is carrying it over. Don't buy it.

.......After the mow today. Hey Glenn...ahem.....hehe.... ;)
Not too bad for a cold, wet Spring. Much better than I thought it was gonna be after 86" snow piled on it. Needs some warmth to fill it in and get growing more, though.

:happy1: Looks nice Reb , but that means more mowing than I wanna do these days. 'Bout the only fertilizer & seed I've used in a while is when I was tryin to get some bare areas under the big pines on the north side here started. So dusty otherwise I didn't even like havin the garage door open

My neighbor does it for me, since I can't. Unable to walk on any uneven ground or hill. I do stuff that I can for him in return. Tune ups, his mower and blower, etc.  The back yard gets done with me putting around on the Red Rocket...love that little mower! :azn:
