I finally did it. Purchased my first ever enclosed deer stand.  These roto molded stands have been around for a while and after view this model and taking extensively with the company owner at the Anoka game fair, I took the plunge and bought one.  Picked it up in Royalton yesterday.  They come in a variety of models with or without bases.  Being I already have a couple basis that I got from my neighbor last fall and setup after the swamps were frozen, I just purchased the "shell" which I plan to put on the base this weekend.

That's the cats meow!   :happy1: How heavy is it? Could they also be used for an ice-fishing shack?

If I had my own property I would get one like that also.  Should have years of comfortable use out of it.  good luck.

I'm a sucker for a nice, home made, wooden deer stand - inherent dangers not withstanding.

But you got me thinking.  Time goes by and my ability to scramble up a tree and pound nails one handed while hanging upside down holding on by the other is diminishing.  As much as I like wood, I like maintenance less.

You may be onto something with that prefab, DE.   :happy1:

Now put some carpet on the floor and get a Little Buddy heater and you are in business.  Hope there are shelves to sit binocs, shells, treats on too.  AND a nice comfortable chair that swivels and is on rollers and has arms and is the right height.  I get one heck of a neck ache if there are no arms on a chair.

The ones I looked at appeared to be really solid but the insides were bare & would need some personal touches. Don't hunt much but I thought they looked very durable & would last a long time.

At least he wouldn't get hurt much, with it sitting on a tree stump.

Even if it wasn't he'd just land on his noggin so he wouldn't feel much of anything.

Stand is now up and ready.  That is except a few personal touches as several of you mentioned.  Shelves, hooks etc.  There is a cubby hole for the heater that can double as lunch storage.  There are no pictures of us actually lifting the stand on the platform as there were just three of us and it was a handful to be sure.

Rebel, yes, it can be used as a fish house. As a matter of fact, they make one with skis built right in.  Looks a bit like floats on an airplane.  The guy said they were 125 pounds but after lifting it on the platform, I'd say more like 150.

Steve-O, Ha, you obviously built and maintain a number of "tree stands".  I know the feeling as we still have about 20 of them.

dakids, a friend and my brother in law were up there on Friday/Saturday.  We made the trail and got the stand on the platform we had put up last fall after freeze up.  It's west of the cabin, through the food plot and out the swamp.

I screwed boards on the bottom to keep it in the trailer.

End of trail,

How long does it take for deer to get used to a strange thing being there?
