Date Hunted 11/16/2019:

No ducks in SE Louisiana either.

Very few ducks in the sky again. We have had cold weather and we have the food, no ducks. We had two chances today at ducks. Eight teal came in and we shot five. About 10 Dosgris passed over the back of and we did not have a good shot so we were hoping they would come back but didn't. That is it.

Highlight of the day was the 150 coot (pouledeau) pack that slowly came to us behind the blind. The were bunched up tight and we put nine shots into them. Ground rake. Picked up a bunch and shot some more to get the pouledeau limit of 45. Get the crock pot ready for the stews.

I heard of an old guy years ago that shot them just to eat their large gizzards!   :puke:

With everything freezing up this away it wont be long. I've always wanted to hunt ducks in the deep south, keep us posted !! As far as the tweezer breaks ( that's what we call them) go ahead and shoot my 45...

Enjoyed the replies...  Remember we are in south Louisiana and we eat a lot of things down here many would pass on.

I will tell you this.  If you skin out a coot and gut it with full body and put them in the crock pot slow cook with carrots, potatoes other vegetables and seasoning for a good stew you would change your mind.  I have friends that don't want me to bring them clean ducks rather they want the coots and the gizzards in them.  Don't kick em to the curb until you try them.

interesting, the stories I heard they had to soaked in milk or something...    this is from the stories I heard growing up in the 60's from the older folks...
a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work!!
