ELY-Babes Bait and Tackle, 451 W. Sheridan St., Ely, MN    (218) 365-6930
First business on the left as you are entering town of Ely from the west on Hwy 169

Now that the walleye season has officially wrapped up, most fishermen are concentrating on panfish. Crappies seem to be the number one target with sunfish and trout tied for second.
Some of the best fishing is coming from the lesser known, smaller lakes. JOHNSON LAKE, ONE PINE, LOW LAKE, and BASS LAKE are getting their fair share of attention now. Limits of crappies are not out of the question, with many folks getting a limit in just a couple of hours. BIRCH LAKE on the edge of Babbit is turning some dandy 12-14 inchers from the west end reefs and humps as well as around Birch point. BURNTSIDE LAKE is still turning out some impressive lake trout to 22 pounds. Babes Bait and Tackle, "The best little bait shop in Ely."
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

Thanks; but how about snow?   how much snow is up there on the ground, ice, etc.  just curious as to how the spring will play out with low water conditions or not.

Its dryer than a popcorn fart MT.  There is not a lot of snow to melt in much of the area.

I hate to hear that's it so dry up there.. Let's all pray for a wet spring.. If it isn't, the blow down of 99 may just erupt.. We have been lucky last few years, I hope it continues.. Remember,,, the forest is like heaven to us but one careless match could make it look like hell!!! Becareful!!!!! QG

They should have allowed the loggers in there right after it happened in 1999.. Cleaned the mess up, charged a percentage of the profit, and everyone would be happier and safer today.. Now each year we wonder if it will be the big one... It's coming sometime.. QG
