Large Shiners?

Very hard to find since the bait companies are no longer allowed to bring them over state lines.

I know that the bait shop near me is working on getting certified shiners. But, so far they only have small ones for walleye.

Certified bait will be a higher premium, sure, but I'm willing to pay for them.

I do however put big ole sucker minnows in a harness for spear chuckin!!!!!!!!! a pike looks at a shiner..the shiner dies!!!!!!

I've been going to Vados Baits for years.  They are located off 65 in Spring Lake Park.  I just called them and they said they have medium shiners.  Large may come in this afternoon.  So you could call them later at 763-784-6728 and check since you will be down here tomorrow.  good luck.

I checked them online earlier when HD posted & didn't see any Shiners listed then.

Keep um cold and change the water often, keep them in a 5 gallon bucket with an aerator instead of a tiny minnow pail.

You'd think Glenn would know that.  They stay a good week that way......in a cool 45* garage helps, too. I ran my aerator maybe 1-2 hours a day, and that was enough to oxygenate the water.

When I had to add water, like on a trip, grab a couple bottles of spring water from the store......cheapest brand ya can find. Just make sure it's SPRING water.

Yup, 2-3 times the amount of water you'd normally use for that amount of bait & change it at least 2, maybe 3 times a day. Keepin 'em cool & a good aerator helps bunches too.

Meh, I'll stick with suckers for bait. Shiners are a pain in the azz to babysit. Iffin the fish don't like my suckers.... Ta hell with them.

I change the water every couple days. But I just use the water from my pond.

I have found that my big baits stayed much better if I use well water than lake water.  ???   I change water often too.  BUT now I use frozen shiners.  Almost too easy.
