so boober and I decided next saturday to hook up and chase some flags. I need fish for the wild game feed! i'm out!!!!!

so we are going to go to PELICAN  lake west of monticello, yea the big duck slew. there's an access point off of cty road 117, the first one is the intention. hoping to be there shortly after first light. I can post more specific directions if some are interested.
ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED????????????????

so I did some research, pm'ed dakids and deadeye, they haven't been there or not in a long while. on my way back from red wing yesterday I took a drive over to that access. I brought my binoculars along. there where 6 vehicles parked on the landing. I glassed the lake and seen a fair amount of vehicles, even a big azz ice house out there.

I seen a snowmobile coming into the landing so I waited till he got there, a dad and kid, said he was out there for maybe an hour chasing flags but didn't have any. he said the ice was 16-18 inches thick. he did tell me a buddy of his from big lake was out last weekend with a group of 4 and they caught 30 pike and had to go back to town for more sucker minnows. said they had some slot fish they threw back but had keepers.

so...…..anyone...….even a bad day on the ice with friends is better then sitting at home!!!!

I haven't been to that lake since the big crappie boom.  I parked of a county road by a landing but the parking there by the landing was limited.  Had to park on the side of the road.  People were fishing by the side of the road and everyone was catching crappies and some pike.  I was catching so many big crappies I was sorting them out.  I'm talking crappies 13 to 16 inches.  Then when the crappies moved out of that bay nobody was fishing there anymore.  I thought the DNR was going to drain the lake some.  I think there were so many large fish in that lake was because of the poor access points at that time except for small carry in boats or canoes.  good luck.

yea they have been draining it. deadeye said the water level is up about a foot and a half from last year.

my buddy said he tried getting on the lake this past summer, but the water was so low it was impossible. they guy I talked to yesterday said it froze out a few years back, but I didn't seem to think it had much of an effect on the pike.

he also told me those fish his friend cleaned where full of 3-4 inch small crappies!!!!!

I think they had a unrestricted fishing time during that freeze out period.  No limits and any method except explosives LOL.  Wanted to go there then but never made it.  Went up north instead.  good luck.

Bobber, I'd love to that! Really I would! Just the question of some physical issues....things have progressed, unfortunately. I never know from one day day to the other if I'll be able to walk or stand...I won't get into it. Makes it really hard to plan anything anymore.
