Two days ago lightning struck a dead tree on my land. It must have been a big bolt as the tree was blown to bits.  Chunks were flung over 50 feet in all directions.  The ground around the stump was also blown out. I got chills and shivers as I walked around viewing the power of this lightning strike. 

This is what's left of the tree.  Chunks were thrown in all directions.  Ground blasted as well.


Big chunks of the trunk were 20 30 feet away and smaller pieces well over 50 feet.


No sign of damage on the surrounding trees.


You can see large sections of trunk in the background.

glenn57, damn, I never thought of that.  Now that you mention it, maybe it was.  However, most trees the really big bucks rub on are not recognizable as a tree any more.  Speaking of that, I did see my first rub today...
