got a question need ideas.

i have a 1975 ski-doo........yea dont go there!!!!!! :tut: :tut: :rotflmao: i havent had it started in a few years. greased it up, put gas in and it started all right but seemed to run on only one cylinder???? so i was going to put new plugs in it when i noticed gas on the floor. after looking it over i seen gas coming out of the overflow line of one of the carbs. it was like it was syphoning gas??? gas would run out, quit a bit and do it again.

my thought process leads me to believe some gaskets or seals dried up????? i pinched to overflow off hoping by today it would do what it needs to do. gonna go check it out later.

any other ideas????? now i've helped a buddy of mine take and clean my carbs before, but that was a long time ago, and its amazing how little gum and gunk in  carb can make a snowmoible run like crap. i had almost all the gas syponed out  and added 6 gals of fresh non oxy with seafoam and starton in it so its not bad gas..........

depending on todays outcome, and if its not good, think i'll bring it to our new fix it guy up north!!!!!!

I have a 1998 Ski doo and think it is getting old.  Go spend $1500-2000 and upgrade.

So after 10 years you decide to bring it up nort? ....might make a good flower pot come spring,or a boat anchor for your tune.

Probably the carb float stuck open.  Remove the float enclosure and work it free.

Just an update, took it to a guy not far from the cabin and got $175.00 it's running like a fine tuned machine.  :happy1: just a good carb work over.

So, now that I'll have easier access to it, I'm thinking of just adding some stabil to the gas and running it when I am up there during the summer.

Any thoughts?? I used to do the stabil, then use fogging oil to kill it and spray the cylinders.

Sounds about right. If storing in a shed or under a tarp up north. You may want to put a piece of duct tape over the end of the exhaust pipe to keep the mice from loading it up with acorns! And any holes in the air box mice or chipmunks can get in or you will be cleaning the carbs again next winter.  Jack up the back and take the load off the track and springs. Oh and hit every grease fitting you can find with grease! :happy1:

 :happy1: :happy1: good ideas. :happy1: we haven't .

had mice in that shed however, since it was built

Well never got any in traps or seen signs of them and we have 4 canvas collapsible fishhouses in there. Snowmobile sits on a dolly with wheels. :happy1: I might bring my snowmobile lifter upper up there.

AND the most important thing for anything that will have gas sitting in it for periods of time is having no ethanol in it. I know we talk about this from time to time.  Since the only non ethanol here is premium that is what I put in all small engines including boat motor.  I haven't had a problem with bad gas for 15 years.  That used to be a constant problem with dirty carbs, running rough till you mixed new gas in with the old etc.  My new Merc 115 they even told me use primo non oxy cuz they knew what was available here.  What I don't forget is that Gunner's motor which I think is a 115 doesn't run good on primo.  Cars that are designed for regular gas do not perform as well on primo!!   SO what is the answer.  LOL

Same here.  I do dump some seafoam in now and then and that's all I do.

Stabil breaks down after awhile and gets skunky.....
Depends on how often your going to run it.
Even with premium non-oxy gas, I store with seafoam. NEVER had an issue.

I've used Seafoam once in the while but it's claims just seem a bit to snake oilish to me.
Cleans injectors, carbs, deposits, noisy lifters.  But, heeell yeah throw it in a 2 cycle motor!  It wouldn't eat the lubricant mixed into the gas!      :bonk:

Plus it has "Lubricity"  :sleazy:

 How old is that label? I've never seen Sea Foam in a 24 oz container, usually it's 16 oz for us unless my brother picks up a gallon during 1 of the big M's 11% off sales.

I don't know. The example was pulled off the internet, thus the Do Not Copy all over the thing!  :doah: :doah:
