Well this should get the pot stirred...

When the Trump administration delisted gray wolves from the Endangered Species Act, it triggered a Wisconsin law requiring the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to hold a wolf hunt from mid-October through February, Wisconsin Public Radio reported. The DNR originally said it would wait until November 2021 to prepare a hunt, but hunting advocates sued to speed up the process, and last week a judge ordered the board to prepare a February hunt. This prompted the DNR to set a quota on Monday of 200 gray wolves that can be killed before the end of the month.

Wildlife advocates oppose the move, pointing out that the rushed hunt will take place during the wolves' breeding season.

"You remove one, you're essentially destabilizing and killing the entire pack," Friends of the Wisconsin Wolf and Wildlife Executive Director Melissa Smith told Public News Service. "So, we expect this to be pretty detrimental to our wolf population."

I'm on the fence on this issue, what do you guyz think,I know folks in northern minn are all in as most are effected up north one way or another.

I like Leech's answer! :happy1: I do think that the rushed season probably not the smartest thing. But with all the  :bs: the antis pull, a little taste of there own medicine is a good thing. I highly doubt that many hunters are going to drop everything and go wolf hunting. So it will not have that big of an impact on them. I would also love to see a season brought back in MN. Hopefully it can be forced past Walz here like WI.

I do know the dept of agriculture took out quite a few gray wolves between longville and browerville 2 years ago for cattle predation,if true agents took out double digits in this area according to locals.this area has been void of white tail deer for years according to locals and folks that hunt this area for deer.Ole peta would really get fired up if they knew. wonder where these animal folks get they're data?,"take one wolf out of the pack will kill the entire pac" seems extreme.

In some cases some wolves become complacent around humans almost like stray dogs looking for a hand out.Just like these guyz hangin on a snowmobile trail

Have to agree, Snow.  The woofies seem to be able to figure things out by themselves.  Its one of the advantages of being a pack animal.

Wolf population went from virtually non-existent to way-to-many.  My hunch is the answer is somewhere in-between.

I don't know? I think once the Febs opens something up all the states DNR's need to jump and set up a season fast. Before all the PETA and Animal Plant folks can organize and raise funds to start laws suits to stop it. Quarterback sneak it!  :happy1:

Seen pics of a pack of 7 or 8 that run the west side of the lake & even that part of the river where it enters the lake over there. Some big sections of undeveloped/government ground over there.
