Brings back memories of late season crappie fishing on URL back in the boom days around 2001,buddy talked me in to the long drive wilst we sipped on beer solving the worlds problems at our local pub,he seen the giant crappies we were catching and wanted in on the action,we left white bear lake around midnight after we loaded our gear, hit Rogers around 5am raining steady, big time wind as we walked out on the ice,no one else was out, scary walk in the dark old ice holes were siphoning water like a toilet bowl making huge open holes we could of fell in,found my old magic spot as I left a cigar butt on my spot, holes still open from days before,we filled a 5 gallon bucket in no time,15 red lake slabs with the tails curled up filled the bucket, still pooring rain with thunder,we walked off the lake just as it was getting light, stopped in wakish for breakfast, waitress told us warroad was in a blizzard coming our way, roads were shutting down etc,so we high tailed it back to the cities, with this massive storm on our heels all the way back home, once we stepped out of the truck, tornado sirens....crazy minnesota weather, this was my last trip yo URL,crappie boom was over the following year, today's weather reminds of that day wet and soggy.
