I heard a rumor about a nice little lake that was spitting out crappies.
that sort of thing doesnt often get my interest up as usually it's b.s., or by the time you hear about it, so has half of the county.
the thing that caught my attention, was this lake is not known for having any fishable population of crappies. believe me, I have worked it many times in search of, catching anything but.

so, after about a week, finding the time to go, I packed up the scrounge and headed over there.
there were two other fishermen on the ice and I ambled over to have a chat with them.
they are pretty tight lipped, but I said, listen, the simple fact that you are out here is a dead give away. I aint telling nobody. I just want to give it a try with my kid over here. then they spilled their guts.
turns out they were catching "a couple here and there" once in a while.
this is what a couple here and there look like.

scroungie had the hot hole, pulling up fifteen out of eighteen slabs.
he broke off his line twice and both times managed to grab the line and fight the fish by hand and bringing them up.
the kid was on fire.

this is a monumental find for me for two reasons.
first, it's location, second having looked for them and having written them off in this particular lake, just to have them finaly end up in numbers and size in my bucket, bringing those efforts to fruition.
lets see how long before the word gets out on this spot.
dont ask, I aint saying  :-*
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

Nice job piqueing everyones interest Jiggle I know of a piece of water by you that gives up a some good crappies  Its not easy for someone just walking up to find them though. It is better keeping it hush hush . besides these little gems are all over the state.

well, I tried again all by myself and...well, lets just say, it was no fluke.
they were still there but the average size seemed slightly larger tonight.

tomorrow, I will take out a couple select crappie assasins to hone in on a couple more spots I have picked out on the lake.
my hopes are to come up with a few spots on the lake as to not over burden any particular part of the lake and it's inhabitants.

I sure do love catching them crappies :)

In a way I hate it when a lake like that is found. I know of a lake , maybe 40 acers in size, that gave up gills that would make most crappies look sick. Needless to say somebody took the wrong friend and word got out. It didn't take long before average size of gills caught droped a great deal. I would be very careful about who you took thee jigglestdick.

i have got a private lake out of state that was stocked 12 years ago. nobody has fished it for years . anyway this summer i may take a trip just to fish it and might want to take someone with me. it is a six hour trip. oh.... and did i mention the gills would rival any crappie in the slab size. it is an amazing site. and talk about fun . the great thing is ............ it will never be fished out.
