There is a learning curve to getting used to it.  Watch as many videos about it that you can.  They are fun and really help even if you only retain some of it.  As you push buttons things will come back to you.  Like a new phone.  The more you use it the better you are at figuring it out.

  Videos did nothing for me , I had to just play with it. For that reason, I kept the the smaller book/user's manual in a Ziplock bag in the boat with me for the 1st couple seasons.

Nice things these days is you have the book, videos and the unit to play around with.   I watched the videos and then went out and used the unit.  As mentioned, the more you use it the more you will know what you are looking at.

220's to hunt with.......i have a hellova time finding them....so i'm hoarding!!!

lps.........since i started using them a deer or bear dont go very far before dropping dead......just the way i like it!!!!

You must not shoot very far if you are using one grain to site in and a different grain to hunt with. Wouldn't that throw your MOA out of whack at further distances? 40 grains is a big difference.

Most I shoot for distance is 125 yards..  maybe.

I was told by a gun and ammo fanatic unless your shooting real long distance  the only difference is bullet speed.

Been doing this 20 years, same as my brother with no issues

So question before I start my locator project. The directions say/ suggest I mount the ducer on the starboard side because of less water turbulence.

My other locator was on the other side and I didn't have issues reading  depth wide open. Is it really that big of a deal?? I want to do it right the first time. My point would be plugging up old holes.

mine is on the port side, no issues for me...

I've always ran them on the Starboard side as suggested. Have seen others mounted port side too so

Mine is on the starboard side and always use a mounting board.  Then you can silicone all around it and mount to the board.  If you already have holes on the port side maybe you want to keep it there but cover those holes up with the white mounting board and then mount on that.

You’ll void the warranty if you put it on the port side, you may even damage your boat?

mine is a tiller so that is why it's mounted that way...

But as LPS suggested, you should purchase a plastic board to mount on your stern, then mount your transducer to that.

what benefit will i get if i get one of these plastic board mounts?

Ours is just like the pic, I don't remember is your transducer long, and have side imaging? A board might help with rough roads then. If not I wouldn't worry about it.
