Kinda day, thought a while back the cancel culture was changing the name of our sloppy joe quick start can of "manwich" not the case, secured a can of "manwich" for dinner tonight...whew....Any of you sloppy joe gourmet's have a old recipe you would like to share?

Kinda hard to screw-up  hamburger/manwich detail but always looking to add something new, thinking about chopped sweet onion's and chopped jalapeno pepper for a little sweet/hot kick.anything else?

That sounds really good.  Heck, my wife adds a good pinch of brown sugar for the sweetness.

If I only have a pound of hamburger, I never use the whole can of Manwich - too sloppy.

But now you got me thinking about other stuff I could try to add.  Hmmmm.

Define "Sloppy Joe".....a failed try at a BBQ on a bun? 60's advertising "I'm in a hurry" food.  Sorry, but I wouldn't touch that Crapwich in a can for love nor money. But, some love it. My buddy thinks it's the cat's meow.
Let me get ya on something better and just as easy, snow.
Cook yer burger with some chopped up white onions and diced green peppers,
pour off any grease. Mix in a half and half ratio: yer favorite BBQ sauce and ketchup, (about 3/4 cup of each) stir in, cook on low covered for about 4-5 mns. That's it. You can use more or less of the sauce, or thin it a tad with water to suit yer taste. I use hickory Sweet baby rays with the ketchup.
for more zing, use his Sweet'n Sassy...  great with it too.

Oh, been a long time since I made this quick easy meal, before serving gotta add some chopped hot pickles, chopped store bought "zingers" work and "TRU" hot dill slices even better chopped up.

I think the garlic is a good add...I'm in.

I just thought of another one...used to make it at the bar that I worked, called 'em "Scratchburgers". Remember making a big roaster of those every Saturday morning at the bar. Pretty sure it was a lb of burger, a chopped up onion, and a can of french onion soup, with just a BIT of water added...think it was a 1/3 cup is all. Add the can of soup after burger is cooked and drained. Cover and simmer until it's all cooked down. We'd serve these with a big shot of mustard and a slice of cheese on top. Some called 'em onion burgers, my girlfriends Mom called it a "loose meat sandwich"...it's whatever works for ya. A root beer stand that was really popular here for the hotrodders in the 60's and 70's added mexican type spice, it was their famous "Mexiburger". Ate a lot of those when out cruisn'. Can add everthing including the kitchen sink, that's what's fun!  :rotflmao:

Yes we need to check the List!  Snow I have had BBq's on my mind too lately.  Haven't made them in years neither.  Good idea.  I like some dill pickle slices on mine too.  Mayhaps a slice of cheese too.

No they sure weren't free! Think like .75 each...Yup, they went like crazy Saturday nites. Prior to that Saturday morning the hungover crowd would trickle in for Tomboys. (Beer and tomato juice) But, we had a lot of folks that would stop in for lunch and a couple beers daily just to have the scratchburgers. Maninly construction guys. (That was pretty common in the 70's..beer with lunch)

Here is the recipe I used when I was in charge of the concession stands at the High School I worked at. I didn't add peppers since to many people don't like them. I suppose you can add them if you want. No heat in this recipe. This beats Manwich.

1 LB hamburger browned.....add fresh or dried onion when about half done
1 cup ketchup
1 Tbs brown sugar
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp worsteshire sauce

Did the kids actually eat it, or did they have food fights with it?

So you are the guy that poisoned me at the beer joint in Northbrook by JM in about 1969 .   Promo party.   Ate scatch burgers and drank 3.2 beer.   Next day thought I was going to die.  And it's all Reb's fault.  Should have known

Not I, said the red hen. I did shoot pool there every Saturday nite, and when Hugh moved it out behind Ford on 52, that's when I worked there. That was '77 to '79. Should know better than to wash down a scratchburger with bunny pi$$.  :rotflmao:

By 79 I was a family man and knew better than to eat that stuff.   And "who in the hell likes 3 2 beer" as the song goes.
