Note to self,wear old cloths and old shoes....Decided to patch up some concrete cracks as long as the weather is warm and dry,before said cracks worsen fron moisture/freezing heav's,bought a couple sticks of self leveling concrete caulk tubes,dang iffin I didn't get that sticky crap all over my clothes and new shoes,what a pisser this morning.,anyone else do this maintenance? product used?

I HATE caulk.  I SUCK at it.  But I do caulk my concrete seams from time to time.

So far I have only use the self-leveling stuff on my expansion joints.  That works pretty well.

I also have some fine cracks, which I haven't done anything to yet.  I don't think there is enough space to get the material down in there.  At the risk of making a bad situation worse, I was wondering if I should get a concrete saw and cut the crack out clean and then fill with caulk.    Any other guys have thoughts?

Otherwise, for sealing concrete joints, I don't use the runny, self-leveling stuff; they make a stiffer caulk that works pretty good and stays flexible.  It lasts a season or two, but frost heave eventually breaks the joints open again.

I use masking tape around the areas where I apply the product, so it doesn't get on everything.  I just peal the tape up after smoothing out the beads.  I have a couple rubber caulk bead forms for smoothing out the bead.  I'm impressed by guys who can caulk without any cleanup.

I LOVE caulking...and pouring concrete....really! Makes me just cringe when I see people trying to caulk.....including some contractors. I learned many moons ago how to lay a perfectly smooth running bead out...with no smoothing over after. That's a big no-no! (Sorry Steve)
Two neighbors had me do their bathrooms tubs/sinks/tile after remodeling, they know I do this on the side. Loved it.  Just don't ask me to cut wood moldings/quarter round/edge trim....ya won't see one angle that's the same. 
I guess I've used expansion butyl concrete caulk if ya must...but no matter what you use, if you have a crack, it'll get worse, IMO. The freeze/thaw cycles here literally wreak havoc on any 'crete cracks. I have patched big cracks/ broken areas with Akona vinyl cement patch. They make pro-grade concrete tube filler, and gray beading. The mixable stuff works great on bigger areas.Did a spot 3 years ago on front steps, corner broke off at backangle. Built a form and poured away. Ice/frost hasn't busted it up yet. I just got tired of filling and caulking the driveway cracks, and then re-doing them in the Spring. Just my .02 worth. PS....Snow1, for you, always wear rubber gloves when using any type of caulk. You probably shouldn't go anyhere near expanding foam, either. That would be a 911 call disaster.

I have some broken out concrete in my garage that I need to fill up.  I had a can of that Rock Hard stuff that I poured in one hole a few years ago and still is holding up.  I wonder if I just use a bag of sand crete if that will work?

I've used Sakrete before for that sorta thing and it worked well for me. They also make Kwikcrete high strength mix...and it's cheap.

Reb,sure now ya come with the common sense....got a box of exam cloves I use for cleaning my game after hunting but not smart enough to use em doing house work.Had a 1" gap where my garage floor butted up to the approach apprin,had to lop off more of the chalking tube to fill the gap after I finished with the smaller cracks,next thing ya know sticky goo was oozing like a water spiket,nasty stuff all over,then of course my dog had to help,so he has chunks of hair cut out,not looking good..

Was thinking of trying that "flex seal" crap always advertised on t.v. Anyone try the stuff?Little gun shy of option's after my mess.

I used the spray on my chimney flashing and it worked great!

Yup glenn,always use exam gloves as I field dress my game asap at the truck,don't always have a water jug along,easy peasy and no mess,ducks and geese can get pretty messy even using the "birdy hitch"
