 :doah: If they had the 10-15 mph SE wind we did here that could've had something to do with it? :pouty:  :bonk:

That is a hellofa picture from Upper Red on the main page.

Still, there are way too many folks on either side of the bridge to make me feel comfortable about what is going on up there.

Someone please tell me that is the rescue operation and not just the means they are using to get out there on the cracked ice and fish longer.

the bridge was to get them off the ice not to fish more...

I hope so, but I still see too many folks on either side of the bridge - and far away from it.

Don't know when the picture was taken, and I don't know what they're waiting for, but if it was me, I'd be across that bridge and on my way to shore right after they secured it.

200 Minnesota Ice Fishermen Rescued from Half-Frozen Lake

Here is something you didn't know about the rescue...

It will be an especially memorable day for Andy LaBarge and Lydia Thole, a couple who got engaged while out on the ice.

“Andy had tied my ring on a lure and put it on my bobber line and I came back in and he’s like ‘Oh you got a fish,'” Thole recounted. “So I reel it up and he’s on a knee, and I said ‘Oh my god!'”

Wonder what Andy would have done if a big ‘pout had grabbed it and headed off.

Your not a kidding.  OR if a nord grabbed it and bit his line off.  Good for them though.  How fun is that?

"YEAH!  And you almost KILLED me you dumb lummox," said Lydia to Andy.

What do you guys think this rain is going to do with the ice conditions?? Sure it's going to get cold again, but I think the damage is going to be done by then.

Holes opened up recently are going to get bigger.

Done fishing.  Early tonight to see the wife on Valentines.   :sleazy:  Absolutely beautiful.  No wind and mid 40's yet.  May be 14 for a high tomorrow and -8 overnight tomorrow night.

got a question for you border fellers.....

LPS........just curious why you took your house off already??? i realize you are on the river but they dont need to be off till the end of the month here.

JB......when do you take yours off??? just curious. how often do you move your house.

i was reading some guys with LOTW's experience are saying for nicer fish going out 5-10 miles is a waste of time and should be targeting shallower water...like under 20 ft...to 10-15 ft. so how deep are you guys fishing??

To address the over fishing on the river in the spring they made it catch and release starting March 1.  SO the people that live here and ice fish lost a month of fishing.  Exactly what I moved here for.  They should have put more thought into it and made it catch and release only starting March 1 for "open water" fishing.  Thanks a lot.  There is 27" on the river here.  It was wide open by the Falls a month ago but it froze up again.  Haven't seen for a couple of weeks.  On the lake it is still wide open till the end of March.  Why the river is different baffles me.  It is still a border water just like the lake.  ?????

I agree Barry. But when does the DNR ever think.
Glenn, the condition of the ice determines when I pull mine off. Or the wife bugs me enough to take it off. I have never had my big house out there up to the end of March. Now that I built a smaller fish house a couple years ago it doesn't bother me if I pull the big house early. I will probably pull that one into shore this coming Sunday after fishing. Then I can fish out of the small for a couple weeks. Hope that answers it for ya.

Yep for the most part. Do you start fishing in shallower water now?
