I usually start moving shallow after we start to get some melting and run off. I start out the season somewhat shallow then move out deeper. Then back in towards the end.

I went right out front Friday evening. Yesterday I went up by LP and fished on Lemms reef. The snow is soft and flat right now. Perfect for cruising.

I caught some. Certainly not fast action. But I came home with 2 nice eyes and 3 saugers. Also caught 3 in the slot. I put pics in the good morning thread of the 2.

Heard some motor noise late this morning. The lake has several inches of water on top of the ice. There were a few rowdy morons out on the lake with some motorized piece of equipment doing donuts. Too far away to see what it was, maybe a three wheeler or scooter?  A while later my wife saw them with a small SUV pulling one of them on water skis.

No ice problems down here, the old whirlpool fridge keeps cranking out perfect cubes ifn ya need that in yer drink,me?? I like my whisky mixed half and half with pepsi and no ice.
AH, ER, ya'all meant ice fer fish'n didnt ya??
Down here we let the ponds freeze up and drag the whole mess to the shed and sort out the ones we want, in spring when it thaws out the whole shoot'n match runs back down to the pond, wash, rinse, repeat.

Today I watched two otters going in and out of the ice.  This means one thing..there is open water.  A few guys walking out but I think I will wait.  This ice is to inconsistent for me.  What a crazy season.  It was 44 this afternoon and its still 35 right now.  We are in line for 1-5" of snow tonight. Sure hope they are wrong.

Now that it is getting light out I see a lot of water on the ice on the river.  Our snow is almost gone including what is in the shade of the woods.

I wonder how much it will cost the Dumbass that landed his plane on Red to get it out?   How could he not have seen the other guys that had to be saved before he landed a few days later?

Ice? We don't need no stinking ice!  :bonk:

Didn't get a glimpse at St. Olaf today but betting it'll be open again if it rains & gets breezy like they're talking the next several days.

Here is your ice report Glenn…. A LOT of water sitting on top of ice that is spotty all over.   On a small lake we found 8” today.  100’ ft away was maybe 4”.  100’ from there was 5-6”.   So much water right now it created a drain effect whirlpool.   Supposed to start raining here around 11:00 tonight.  Temps have been in the 40s all day today and it has not been below freezing for at least the last 48 hours.

The guy that drown I knew very well.   He has lived on that lake all his life.   He was riding out there on the same tracks he dropped in for several days.   I am surprised we have not seen a lot more of this.

I want to fish as much as anyone but this is not the year to be macho man.  Yesterday I seen a guy out on an atv with two kids on it…just can't fix that kind.  Everyone just be safe and patient.  We will get ice.
