Should two lines be allowed?

Many states allow you to fish with two lines in open water, but Minnesota doesn't.  Do you think you should be allowed to fish with two lines?  Does it make sense that you can on the ice but not open water?  What do you think?

The only reason I can think of is to keep people from keeping too may fish....duh ::).  But, isn't that what daily and possession limits are for?

I have no problem with allowing 2 lines.  As far as poachers and such-we already have that problem now.  And as far as increasing my chances of catching fish?-not likely!  But it will double my chances of drowning minnows!    Not only that, but it gives me an excuse to buy more rods n reels & tackle!

Yeah...what the heck? What does it matter? I would love to use two lines slip bobber fishing. It would also be nice to be able to bounce a jig off the bottom while bobber fishing as well. Why not. Only 4 fish are coming in with me no matter what way I do and half the time that won't even happen!

 >:(  it dont make sense to not use two lines the way and the place that i fish ! fishing off a pier, bridge or from a boat should not stop a person from useing 2 lines as a limit is a limit! dont matter if you have 10 poles in the water. it just makes it that much more fun to try and keep up with them. and on a nother note a person would have a chance to fish for larger pike on 1 pole ,while fishing for pan fish with the other. if it,s a matter of more poles and more limits then whats to stop a person from double trippin with the use of 1 pole ? it,s as simple as that !!!!!!!!!

The only other reason that I can think of is if you have two hits at once, and you can only attend to one line , it's increases the chance of the fish swallowing the hook on you other line, thus causing the fish to die.

 ??? good thought ! but only 1 problem !! when you use 2 lines through the ice ,what makes the differance between ice and open water ? a hook is a hook no matter what season you are fishing in and with 2 lines!    ???

The only thing I can think is that you can usually get your line up quicker....

True.....And a lot of guys use that second line for a tip up that is about 100 feet away from whereever they are. If they are concerned about the fish swallowing a hook that would be a cause for concern.

  when i was in missiouri we could use as many line as you could handle ! i know this is not MO. but if you cant handle more then 1 line at a time when useing 2 lines just adjust till you can ! ???

Yes two lines would be nice. In the state i came from  it was two lines on the bank as well as in a boat.

I live and fish in WI, I can use 2 lines, I belive that you can also use 2 lines on border waters like the st croix and Miss. I fish in MN too and I dont get it.  Do you know I can use Blue gills for bait in WI (i think thats right), wierd Huh?

go figure, but what can be done to get someone fighting for us in congress or what ever you call it to have the 2 line law in mn ammended....any ideas?

I read an artile about this today. The writer is from Minnesots and he claims that year after year more and more people are coming to Mn from Wisconsin to fish our walleyes. He said that they have the lakes over there as well as we do but we have more walleyes. The writer was directly relating that the reason they have fewer wallleyes is becasue in WI you can use 2 lines. I find this to be bs. Heck, i'm not even sure what the walleye popluations are in WI but i'm sure if they are worse off it is not becasue they can use 2 lines ???

What do you guys think about this??

He went on to say that most fisherman can't handle 1 line....why give them more? It went on and on. Somewhat interesting read but I don't agree with most of it. And what about this one...If you are using 2 lines you will catch twice as many fish and twice as many fish will die due to hook mortality.

 :-\ to every fish tail there are two sides! so the article you are refishing to sounds like 6 of 1, and a 1/2 a dozen of the other?
 like i said before a fish is a fish ! and it wont make any differance how many lines you catch it on, and a limit is still a limit ! what it realy sounds like is this person mite not fish much ? or maybe he or she is against tha whole fishing concept.::)

I also agree with the 2 line concept. In Wisconsin we can actually use 3 lines and you can use bluegills for bait as long as it was caught from the lake you are fishing. If you have a limit of gills in your cooler, you best not be using one for bait or you will get a citation for being over your limit.

When fishing with clients I always prefer the one rod per person for various reasons.

1. They can focus better with one rod and fish the way I tell them to.

2. The catch ratio per hit goes up with less distraction due to an extra rod.

3. Less bait is wasted due to slower reaction time.

4. The atmosphere in the boat is more relaxed without the extra rod distractions.

5. If an extra rod goes overboard, it will usually be my equipment.

6. With extra lines in the water it's like a Chinese fire drill trying to fight those smallies and reeling in the other lines.

Exceptions:

If the action is slow I will throw out some extra lines near me and watch them. This way I just yell out a clients name and have them take the hit.
